April 21, 1967 80 DEPARTMENT MEETING OF EMPLOYEES At approximately 4 PM on April 21, in the presence of Szarlan, Harris, Natario and Blitstein, I informed the Union that the Company was posting a notice in 80 department (attached). Earlier that day, in a discussion with the Union, it was established that the Union had no knowledge, and considered unauthorized the meeting that some unidentified employees of department 80 had set up for 9 PM, April 21, at a bar in Ludlow. The Company was posting the notice in response to questions by some 80 department employees regarding the Company's acceptance of any absences from work to attend this meeting. It was made clear to the Union that this was potentially a serious situation and could conceivably develop into a "work stoppage" as prohibited by the contract. Union response was they saw no problem and did not expect people to miss work.
