Dr. J 0Po Simko Colgate Palmolive 909 River Road Piscataway, New Jersey 08854 Dear Dr. Simko: Using transmission electron microscopy and selected area diffraction we have examined a sample of talc designated as 4915. In this talc we found one fiber of tremolite approximately 2 micrometers by l/2 micrometer. Using selected area diffraction and zone analysis to give the angles between spots we positively identified this as tremolite. We examined a further preparation from this sample and found no other tremolite. This particular fiber would not represent more than a few parts per million, less than 5 parts per million of asbestiform minerals and certainly may well just be stray contamination.
