Mehaffey Dear Mr. Mehaffey: Some time ago some members of the safety 3taff of the Ethyl Corporation collaborated with your people in working out a modification of a welder*s mask, which combined the features of such a mask with those of an airline hose mask. I have run into a number of situations in which a mask of this type would be very useful and for this reason I am writing to inquire of you whether or not this mask or one of some similar type is availa ble or can be made available for use in industrial establishment One of the problems that I meet from time to tame, for which there is no present satisfactory solution, is that of men entering lead lined receptacles used in the chemical industries for purposes of modification and repair. In some Instances a blower or suction ventilator is used to dissipate the fumes and smoke so that the men can see. However, there is no adequate It.equipment which is so convenient that the men are willing to ' use I was led to believe that a mask which Mr. Mack and his associates used In repairing tanks In which leaded gasoline had been stored, would be satisfactory.
