Kli'xvj Dear Vinyl Chloride Safety Association Member, The responses from the first general questionnaire on the Agenda for the 1981 meeting have been reviewed. Let me thank each of you who part icipated . The overall response was low in volume, but very high in quality. The recommendation most frequently expressed was that greater emphasis should be placed on practical safety experience, such as accidents, nearmisses, etc., with less emphasis on compliance with government regulations. In response to this and other recommendations, Doug Frey, VCSA vice-chairman from Diamond Shamrock, and I, have prepared the enclosed questionnaires. We realize that the sheer volume of these questionnaires make it appear to be a very large task. However, we believe this is the best way to organize and present best industry experience in these areas. Also, the task will not be so large when some of the following ground rules are considered. 1. Brief answers are requested, without details or proprietary information. 2. Each questionnaire is designed to stand alone. If the questionnaire does not apply to your particular situation, or you do not prefer to respond in writing, skip that question and answer another. 3. No attempt has been made, nor will be made, to identify specific companies or plants. 4. The questionnaires have been sent to all permanent representatives and USA attendees of the 1980 VCSA Meeting, in order to get the maximum industry participation. Responses to these questionnaires will be summarized and presented at the 1981 Meeting by individuals who have volunteered to be on the program. In order to allow time for the preparation of these presentations and the final meeting agenda, please return the completed questionnaires by July 15, 1981, to: Tom Moore, Tenneco Chemicals, Inc., P. 0. Box 849, Pasadena, Texas 77501. Finally, contrary to your possible first impression, after seeing all the questionnaires, your VCSA Program Committee is not actually the federal govern ment in disguise. We just copied one of their favorite tactics. Seriously, the amount of imput/participation from each member of the association will deter mine the overall benefit to the entire Safety Association.
