Mount, Director of the Department of the Interiors, FWPCA, National Water Quality Laboratory in Duluth, Minnesota about the PCB problem. Dr. Mount was very enthusiastic about the WARF Study as an adjunct to the Lake Michigan Study presently underway. The Lake Michigan Study Is an outgrowth of the Lake Michigan Enforcement Conference. The committee that will supervise the Lake Michigan Study Is composed of Dr. Mount and representatives of the states of Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin, along with a representative from the Bureau of Commer cial Fisheries and the Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wild Life. I have enclosed a copy of the aforemen tioned committee's report entitled "Report on Insecti cides In Lake Michigan". This report simply outlines what the committee feels should be done to properly understand the pesticide problem In Lake Michigan. The WARF Study would be a part of the total Lake Michigan Study. Mr. John I. Teasley of the National Water Quality Laboratory In Duluth Is presently gearing up to do GLC-EC analysis for PCB and chlorinated pesticides. Dr. Mount, Mr. Teasley and Dr. Gary Class all ex pressed the opinion that the PCB found In Lake Michi gan and Lake Superior entered the lake as a contamin ate of some other material rather than as a pollutant from PCB manufacture or use. In other words these gentlemen feel the same as we do about the origin of the PCB they are seeing in their analysis. Mr. Teasley asked If he could have a copy of the Swedish work showing the mass spec data. He has not seen this paper but the Ann Arbor laboratory people have told him about It. If there is no objection, I think a copy should be sent to Mr. Teasley. I invited him to come to St. Louis and discuss analytical systems with Dr. Tucker and Dr. Keller. I understand he has already contacted Dr. Tucker In this respect. He could be a good friend to us In connection with this problem and I would recommend that he be treated accordingly. JTG:J u JXckyf.
