Murphy Dear Dicks I have contacted Mr. Boulton Eamshar, University of Penna. as requested in your letter to me of Feb. 5- Dr. Earnahaw ia the puchaeing agent and ha turned wo over to Dr. D. Bronk who is the ran that requested hisa to purchase the TEL. Dr. Bronk is in charge of aoiaa of the re search laboratories and one of the ran under him* Dr. Stevens, is studying the effect of lead poisoning on animals. Their studies have reached the point where they wish to produce cronic lead poisoning in cats* rats or other similar small anii&alg. They intend to carry out the experiments in an existing "fuse chamber8 about 6' x x 6* with a small blower for introducing th load futaee and subsequent ventilating. The chamber is constructed of plywood aides and bottom. The blower ia quite small, the capacity could not be ftenained but the discharge pipe is only about 28 dia* The discharge from the chamber ia a 1^* pipe about 2^up from the floor and leads up through the roof. The entire chamber is in a room about 91 x 12* x 9* high,on the top floor of the 8Animal Bldg.8 My suggestions werei 1. If they vri&hed to use this wooden chamber that it would have to be dismantled and destroyed after the experiments were completed* Otherwise the chamber should be lined with tin or sheet metal and all joints soldered* 2* The discharge from the ohaaber be lowered to the floor and both it and the fan be increased in also* In their ease I beleiva that the actual capaoity of the blower will be determined somewhat by how important the time element is to them. 5* The man conducting the experiments shouldnever enter this chamber without gas mask and rubber gloves* 4* Gas mask and rubber gloves must be worn while liandling the fluid and injecting it into the chamber. 3. I suggested that Or. Kehoe might be able to give them some valuable suggestions for conducting their experiments. 6. 1 left a copy of our booklet on rales and regu lations, marking the section covering handling the fluid in laboratories* X bolieve that they understand the proper handling of of dangerous ?mtorialo and will take no undue chances with T2L* They were much interested in all I could tell them.
