MINUTES of the HEALTH AND SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING NATIONAL INSULATION MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION New York, N. Y. Cotts reviewed the meeting with the National Cancer Institute. * It was agreed that the glass manufacturers would send to the NIMA office prior to February 1, 1967, .information relating to processes, fiber diameters, types of binders, and end use products they manufactured* The information is to be forwarded to NCI. The proposal from. IHF relating to an industry study for fibrous glass was reviewed* It was agreed that the proposal was not detailed or specific enough* Dr* L* J* Cralley talked about the type of studies tho Division of Occupational Health engaged in and outlined the present otudy they were engaged in for the asbestos textile industry* r. U. The Committee agreed that there has been several health hazards alleged to be associated with the fibrous glass industry* Our experience has cot borne out these allegations* However, it is our unanimous recommendation that NIMA write a letter to the Secretary of Health and Welfare requesting that his DCH ascertain whether the health hazard exists in the industry and help in the solution of the problem, if fiuch exists* The Committee has specifically suggested that this be done by JJUU because of the excellent investigations and reports which resulted from other investigations of ouch industries as beryllium, diatomite, chrome, mining, etc. The Committee agrees that existing information should be sent to Dr. L. J, Cralley of DQH for interpretation. All companies are requested to send the NIMA office all infomiationcconceraing health as it relates to fibrous glass for submittal to DOH. The Committee believes that the subject of management talking to the union regarding health hazards should be investigated. It was suggested that any study be broadened to include all insulating materials. The Committee agreed that the data available from the Kettering Laboratories pertaining to air erosion should be sent to Dr. L. J.
