A EWS LETTER No. 393 March 3, 1959 NICARO PERSONNEL CHANGES ANNOUNCED The following appointments have been made at the Nickel Processing Corporation's plant at Nicaro, Cuba, effective February 1: Richard Willey has been appointed general manager, succeeding Sherman A. White; Jose L. Martinez has been made assistant to the general manager; H. Allen Stewart be comes general superintendent, and Juan J. Reguera has been named chief engineer. Mr. Willey is a mining geologist with experience in the United States and abroad. Prior to accepting his present position at Nicaro, he had spent two years in Guatemala doing mineral exploration work. Mr. Willey was graduated from the University of Utah. Mr. Martinez was formerly general superintendent of the Nicaro plant, and has held several supervisory positions during his seven years with the Company. He holds a degree in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Mr. Stewart was promoted from assistant general superintendent to his present posi tion. He joined the Nickel Processing Corporation in 1957, and went to Nicaro to super vise the installation of the reduction furnaces. Mr. Stewart holds a bachelor of science degree from the University of California. Mr. Reguera previously was in charge of electrical installation and maintenance at the Nicaro operation. He has been at Nicaro for more than five years. PACIFIC COAST BRANCH ANNOUNCES PERSONNEL CHANGES The following appointments have been made by the Pacific Coast Branch: Douglas R. Crowe becomes assistant to the manager; Lloyd W. Merrill becomes manager of National Lead Company of Hawaii, Ltd.; E. J. Wardell has been made central division sales manager; Ned D. Baglion has been named central division manager-trade sales, and W. H. Derry has been appointed sales manager for the southern division. Mr. Crowe was first employed by the Pacific Coast Branch in 193^, serving in the statistical department. In 1938 he joined the sales force of the central division, and in 1950 was named assistant sales manager of this division. Since 195^ Mr. Crowe has been trade sales manager for the Pacific Coast Branch. Mr. Merrill started with the Company in 19^-0 as a member of the central division sales force and was named assistant sales manager for the central division in 19I+8, and sales manager in 1951* Mr. Wardell has been assistant to the central division sales manager since 19^8. He joined the Company in 19bj as a sales representative for the central division. Mr. Baglion began his Company career in 1933 as a sales representative for the central division. He became manager in the Fresno, California, area in 19^5- la 1957 Mr. Baglion was named sales manager for the southern division in Los Angeles. Mr. Derry started with the Company in 19^-7 as a member of the order department of the southern division. In 19^8 he was made a store salesman, and from 19^9 to the time of his present promotion, he served as a sales representative for the southern division. NELSON AND CHAPMAN PROMOTED AT FERNALD National Lead Company of Ohio has announced that McDonald S. Nelson has been pro moted to the position of assistant plant manager, and Clifford R. Chapman has been appointed general superintendent of production. Mr. Nelson was first employed by the Company in 19^2 as assistant superintendent _over_ 0000-NLI-000024784 </ 2- - at the St. Louis Lead and Oil Works. Before coming to Feraald in 1951, he served at the Magnesium Reduction Company at Luckey, Ohio, then a Company subsidiary, and with the Hoyt plant at Granite City, Illinois. In 1957 he was named general superintendent of productior Mr. Chapman has served in various production capacities since his arrival at Fernald in 1951; most recently as superintendent of the production engineering department. Mr. Chapman began his Company career at the Philadelphia Branch in 193^, and was a process engineer in plant production prior to his transfer to Fernald. RUMFOLA IN NEW POSITION AT SOUTHWESTERN BRANCH Anthony S. Rumfola has been named assistant manager of the pigments and chemical division of the Company's Southwestern Branch. Mr. Rumfola attended the University of Houston, and has been a technical sales representative for the Southwestern Branch since joining the Company in 1952. Previously, he was associated with Shell Oil Company and Hercules Powder Company.
