At the June AIHA/ACGIH conference, the TLV committee issued its 1979 list of "Notice of Intended Changes" which included ^tyxene. The committee has recommended that the TWA3 limit be lowerecf'*to" 50 ppm and- the STEL lowered to 100 ppm. I have attached a copy of the preliminary issue received at that conference for your review.
As a result of this notice, I contacted William Kelly, Executive Secretary of ACGIH, concerning the documentation supporting the intended TLV change. Bill mentioned the fact that the reason for "Notice of Intended Changes" is to arouse concern and, hopefully, spur comments supporting or.refuting the proposed change. After two years, if no evidence is found that questions the appropriateness of the proposed changes, the value will be reconsidered for the "Adopted" list. Our comments and data regarding the toxicity and human experience on styrene are welcomed.
Bill Kelley had promised to send me a copy of the documentation as
soon as it became available. I talked with Bill after receiving
your memo 9/20/79 and he will forward immediately what information
he has at present. As soon as I receive the documentation supporting
lowering of the TLV, I will pass it on.
