Zeller, Chairman SC 12796 LAM013990 SAFETY ITEMS AND SUGGESTIONS BROUGHT UP BY THE 1977-A TERM HOURLY SAFETY COMMITTEE AND HANDLED TO A SATISFACTORY CONCLUSION (1) Chemical charts using the various chemicals, hazards and effective emergency measures were printed and made avail able to all field base personnel. (2) Departmental training was stepped up to cover procedures on fire and entry permits plant wide for new employees. (3) Major design work is in progress to eliminate hazards from fumes at the TBA loading dock. (4) Meetings held with personnel involved in working on ball valves because of pressure being trapped in the valves creating a potential serious hazard. (5) Problems with dempster dumpster driver, and flagman, and locations of this equipment were satisfactorily handled to eliminate the hazards which was being created. (6) Methods of sanitizing face shield at grinders before use has been developed and setup. (7) Steam coming from catch basin creating a serious visibility problem was solved. (8) Instrumental in getting hours of work changed for contract people to eliminate the serious traffic problem in quitting and starting times. (9) Revisions made to the Sugar Sand Blaster in the machine shop to eliminate the hazards to the operator and to people in charge in the shop. (10) Several changes were made in the methods of exits using crash gates etc. so that employees could leave the dock area by several routes in case of any type of emergency. (11) The procedure for decontamination of pumps and vessels etc. and tanks were clarified and were put in effect by plant wide bulletin. (12) Problem bleeders were installed in various N2 Stations to elminate the hazards of breaking the hose under pressure. (13) Revisions were made in the rig to eliminate a serious hazard when rosebud heating tips were used. SC 12797 LAM013991 7/13/77
