After successful trial in the Besd-Vorks a formula based on a batch else 2 1/2 times that of the former standard* K-9689, was taken to the plant*
Over-all quality and yield performance has bees fairly satisfactory although seme slight difficulty has been encountered with dull tints. This has been a chronic problem with GT-347-D production for a considerable period, however, and ie not a result of the use of the economy formula*
A new standard GT-34?-0 formula based on this work has been written

The new standard sample, hot 3448, la composed of three plant batches mada on the K-2294 procedure and compares with the previous GT34?-D standard ae follows* Lot 8443 Vo lot 38175* It - vs dull - vs wk - a dull| light stability* OK*
The plant took over supervision of production by the K-2294 procedure in April, 1946.
As there had been no preliminary laboratory work on ST-347-0 the first Beol-torke trial was based os general experience in the laboratory on pt ma colors plus consideration of plant equipment volumes* A two fold increase in the dye concentration and a 2536 increase in the precipitant concentration gave a product that was a close check to a control batch made on the K-9689 formula. Both of the Bead-^iorks batches made were slightly strong and clean in tint and somewhat better in light fastness versus the GT-347-*5 standard*
A trial run of two plant batches was then nad*| both were finished as GT-69-F, the pulp counterpart of GT-347-D* Some trouble was encountered with low pH of the FTH& complex in the first batch and this was carreeted fear by a $fi cut in acid* A slight improvement in cleanness of tint was obtained with the normal PIMA complex pH of 1*0 (low add formula)

_ Rubout strength on most of these batehes was fairly elose to standard ($5 weak to# strong) but tints ware aostly slightly dull. Variations in hue from slightly blue to slightly yellow ere probably a remit of alight variations in dye quality.
Experience with these hatches show that it will be necessary to care fully control the pB of the FTHh complex within the formulated range in order to lower the possibility of obtaining very weak or very dull tint products.
The K-2294 ferratic differs from the previous K-9689 procedure as follows t
1. The batch else is increased to 24# equivalent to 2 l/2 times
that of K-9689. This is pressed in a full press in 11 Press (22 I/2 cubic feet pressing volume). 2. The dye solution concentration ia doubled. 3. The PTUA oeaplax solution concentration is increased lay about 2$*
Most of tbs plant manufacture has been toads on a .9 standard batoh size (216#) to fit a more frequently available preSs (12 Fressf 18-20 cubic feet pressing volume).
