Dahlatroa hae agreed that we give whatever assistance we can to the U.K. Government group operating within the Central Unit on Euvii-ouMwittal Pollution, under th Department of the Environment, which will present a report to the O.E.C.D. sector group on "The Unintended Occurrence of Chemicals in the Environment" in Paris, October 19 - 27. This follows a request for assistance from lain Prestt, deputy director of the Unit and number Jtwo to Dr. Holdgate, the Unit's director. The U.K. group on the unintended occurrence of chemicals in the environment has decided to direct its attention to three substances as its contribution to the O.E.C.D. aeetlng. These eubstanoes are Meroury, PCBs and Cadmlua. Our co-operation is sought on PCBs.. U.C.I., incidentally, will be co-operating on Mercury. On PCBs, the Unit's intention is to oover three main aspects. ; 1, Stats what an important oocurrencs it is for a company (Monsanto) to partially 'ban' one' of its products. 1 2, Street the importance that other companies do not take advantage of thie action. 3, Provide tables showing levels of PCBs is the environment. ;| j Besides providing information on Monsanto's PCB action, ws will have the opportunity to cross the Is and dot the Ta tf this U.K. contribution, Needless to say, if the report follows the line proposed, it will amount to tacit U.K. governmental approval of Mon^uito's action in this sphere.
