Both indicated that they had developed PB-PK models for ethylene dichloride (EDC) (or at least, in Gargas's case, partition coefficients for such a model), so I asked them each to submit a proposal. Dr. Gargas said that he had recently done an EDC review and that this would be reflected in the pricing of his proposal. In addition, I asked Dr. Gargas to submit a proposal for 1,1,2-trichloroethane and Dr. Andersen to submit a proposal for vinylidene chloride (VDC), for which he said he had also developed a PB-PK model. The proposals are attached for your review. They each provide for a critical review of the literature, a short paper discussing the relevant studies, and attendance at the upcoming Task Force meeting to discuss the available data, the adequacy of the data base for the endpoints for which EPA proposes to require testing, and ideas for proposals for PB-PK modeling. I recommend that we accept Dr. Gargas's proposal for 1,1,2-trichloroethane. I will speak to Bill Hayes and Jim Barter as to what they wish to do on VDC. If it is agreeable to you, I will confer with them at the same time as to which proposal we should accept for EDC. I would like to have arrangements in place by the end of the week of August 12, in light of the deadline of September 18 or 19. Since the conference call, we have obtained a number of studies on EDC from the EPA docket, including a one-generation reproductive toxicity study in rats and a developmental study in rats and rabbits, both by inhalation. We have number of other papers and reviews, Dow has a recent literature search, and we understand that the Radian paper discussed on the conference call is being updated.
