Chambers Works evolved a program designed to minimize occupational exposure and to maintain occupational exposure below accepted, recognized 1imits. The effectiveness of the Chambers Works asbestos handling program is demonstrated by the fact that over 1,000 monitoring samples have been taken since mid-1972 and in only one case were the accepted limits exceeded and that individuail was wearing full protective equipment. The thrust of the program developed by Linch and Thatcher is: Use of strict procedures for asbestos handling. Barricade areas when asbestos handling occurs. Keep all other personnel out of the barricaded areas when asbestos handling is in progress. Monitor personnel who ace handling asbestos within the barricaded areas. And monitor the perimeter of the barricades to assure that the barricades have been properly placed.
