My apologies for offering only the one day as an option but it was the only day I could get people from National Sorghum Producers (TX), American Soybean Association (DC), California Citrus Mutual, Florida Fruit & Vegetable Association, and Texas Citrus Mutual all in DC on the same day. The Sulfoxaflor registration was vacated by the 9th circuit in Sept. 2015. EPA finalized a new registration in Oct. 2016 but removed citrus and soybean from the Section 3 citing concerns about pollinators. Sorghum was not on the original Section 3 but was it in the works when the original registration was vacated. Last winter we (sorghum) were assured by folks at EPA that the new uses for sulfoxaflor would be completed by August (this month) and they had everything they needed to get it done. But now we are hearing that the new uses (citrus, sorghum and soybean) aren't getting done anytime soon. This is a big problem for a number of crops. I'm not as familiar wth the soybean situation but I know for sorghum, sufloxaflor is one of only two tools they have to fight the sugarcane aphid, a new and invasive pest that is hammering the crop throughout its range. For citrus, I'm told it is the only product they can use to combat Asian Citrus Psylid, the vector of citrus greening, during the weeks just before harvest. I'm hopeful that hearing the grower perspective might help provide context beyond what the registrants can share and effectively communicate the urgency for the products approval.
