G-P All Purpose Is a one-bag system that may be used satisfactorily for a number of different applications. G-P bedding This compound is designed as a fill coat and for adhesion of the gypsumboard tape to the joints, as well as for the Initial application to nail heads and corner beads. Since it is used for this express purpose, G-P formu lates its product to maximize the taping and adhesive qualities. After a soaking period of 20 to 30* minutes, the mix will lose Its stiffness. After the soaking period, the material should be remixed without adding water until it becomes plastic and creamy. Leave a uniform thickness of compound under the tapes and shear off excess material. At the same time, cover all nail heads and corner beads with the bedding com pound. Allow the application to dry thoroughly before the next step. When the Casein Bedding compound has thoroughly dried and whitened, cover the taped joint with G-P Casein Topping. Shear off the surplus, again leaving a uniform coverage over the tapes, and feather the edges. Repeat the spotting of all nail heads and finishing of the corner beads for each subsequent application, or as many times as necessary. The bedding under the tapes and the first coat of topping over the tapes must be thoroughly dry before applying the next coat. Cover the joints again with the topping compound and shear off the excess as before, leaving a smooth, well feathered joint. Allow the joints to dry before proceeding further. For best results, cover the joint a third time with G-P Casein Topping. A prime coat should be used over the entire area before the final decoration. To texture finished gypsumboard surface, G-P Casein All Purpose may be used. For best results, apply a vinyl primer to the entire area before texturing. It can be used fortaping, finishing, spotting, nail heads, filling corner beads and texturing. The binder in Triple Duty gives this product a wet life of 30 to 60 days (provided the container is kept sealed tightly to prevent drying) which allows premixing in large quantities. Triple Duty has low shrinkage and can be easily sanded. After application by hand tools or machine, the compound leaves a surface ready for priming and decoration with no further preparation necessary. coverage: Approximately 50 to 60 lbs. per 1,000 square feet (12 to 50 lbs. per 1,000 square feet when used as a texturing material). availability: In 25 lb. or 50 lb. bags everywhere in the continental U.S. mixing instructions G-P Triple Duty Joint Compound Is a vinyl adhesive. A heavy coat of anti-rust primer should be applied by brush, roller or spray, to any exposed metal and must be allowed to dry thoroughly. application of triple duty joint compound to concrete surfaces Grout in all "form marks" and obvious imperfections with one application of Triple Duty Joint Compound and allow to dry thoroughly. Apply a second application at right angles to the previous coat and allow to dry thoroughly. Apply skim coat to insure a smooth uniform finish. The skim coat, when dry, may be touched up and lightly sanded to eliminate any unusually rough areas as well as any blade marks before the final decoration is applied. Any normal decoration or texture can be used over the finished surface. availability: In 25 lb. bags through out the U.S. 9 asbestos free ready mix products G-P ready mix This Georgia-Pacific joint compound is a prepared wet mix material to bond tape to gypsumboard for joint reinforcement, to fill and finish joints, cover and finish nail heads and corner beads and for texturing. Ready Mix has a controlled formulation and mixing qualities which result in greater coverage, uniform consistency, easier sanding and smoother workability while saving on job mixing time. Ready Mix can be stored for a maximum of 6 months and not lose any of its bonding or working properties, coverage: Approximately 5 gallons per 700 square feet of gypsumboard. availability: Asbestos free in 1 gallon and 5 gallon pails adjusted to either machine or hand tool con sistency everywhere in the Con tinental United States. Four gallon boxes of asbestos free are available in the Southwest or West. application instructions Apply G-P Ready Mix System Compound to all flat joints and embed tapes. Follow the instructions on the Denswall Tex ture bag for consistency. When using G-P All Purpose, heavy tex tures are obtained by adding about 20 pints of water and for light textures use about 22 pints per 25 lbs. Protect woodwork and trim during application and re move all drops and splatters before they harden. use G-P casein or vinyl joint compounds for laminating When two or more layers of gypsumboard are to be applied, the face layer or layers may be adhesively attached with fewer fasteners than normally required. For walls, the face layer may be attached with permanent perimeter fasteners only in conjunction with the adhesive. For ceilings, permanent fasteners must be applied no further apart than 24" o.c.; that is, there shall be one fastener at each edge and at least one fastener in the field of the board. Where fire ratings are involved, see fire test report for fastener positioning. Bedding Compound, All Purpose Joint Compound, Triple Duty, or Ready Mix Joint Compound may be used as a laminating adhesive. Topping compounds shall not be used for this purpose. The adhesive may be applied by either of two methods: 1. For solid lamination, apply approximately Ms" to Vs " high beads 2" apart over the entire surface to be laminated. 2. For semi-solid lamination, apply 6" wide strips or bands of adhesive consisting of beads approximately %" high and \Vi" apart with the strips or bands located 16" o.c. note: Temporary fasteners may be needed to hold the gypsumboard in place and removed after the adhesive has set. However, these do not replace whatever permanent fasteners are required. 10 asbestos free < speed set G-P speed set G-P Speed Set is a quick setting type gypsum base joint compound, containing a vinyl adhesive, to be used for applying tape, filling metal corner beads, concealing nail heads and finishing joints. This product is available with either a 60 minute or 90 minute working time. Setting time is approximately 30 minutes more than the working time. When set, this material will not shrink. coverage: Approximately 50 to 60 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. of gypsumboard. availability: In 25 lb. bags, everywhere in the continental U.S. mixing instructions | G-P Joint Speed Set System l Compound should be mixed with clean, drinkable water at a temperature of 55"-80 F. In a clean mixing container, use 15 pints of water to the 25 lb. contents of this bag. If the water and/or the bag contents are cold more than the above prescribed amount of water may be needed in order for the material to reach a workable consistency. Mix to the consis tency the material will be used. Speed Set Compound should not be allowed to soak for more than a few minutes. This would reduce the working time. If desired, more water may be added at this time to obtain a thinner consistency. application instructions Speed Set Compound is a product which hardens prior to drying and thereby substantially eliminates further shrinkage. The setting action also provides additional bonding and is harder and stronger than conventional drying type joint compounds. It is < recommended for use with round edge board for pre-filling and taping. It is also recommended for filling comer beads and Georgiafhciflc J* nailheads. It may also be used for taping and finishing regular tapered edge wallboard. Because of Speed Set's fast hardening, it can be used to complete more than one joint finishing operation in a day. Apply G-P Speed Set Compound to all flat joints and embed tapes. Leave a uniform thickness of compound under the tapes and shear off excess material. At the same time, cover all nail heads and corner beads. Allow the application to harden thoroughly before the next step. No additional drying time is needed to control shrinkage. When the Speed Set has hardened, cover the taped joint with the same material. Shear off the surplus, leaving a uniform coverage over the tapes and feather the edges. Repeat the spotting of the nail heads and finishing of the corner beads for each subsequent application or as many times as necessary. The critical point in applying gypsumboard come3 when it is time to reinforce and conceal the joints. A smooth monolithic surface is required, one that will accept various types of decoration. Georgia-Pacific produces a complete line of Joint System Products that includes the latest pre-mixed compounds along with the more conventional powders suitable for either hand tools or mechanical application. All G-P products conform to ASTM Specification no. C 475 and federal specification no. SS-J-570a. There are several distinct advantages to Georgia-Pacific Joint System Products, Including: mixing stability. A wet mix consistency that remains stable, means you avoid those irritating adjustments before use. plasticity. Joint System Products under the name Georgia-Pacific have exceptionally smooth application properties because of their plasticity. This plasticity enables far better control during the application and provides better shear and feather qualities. bond durability. Georgia-Pacific products develop a strength and water resistance which produces an excellent bond and joints as strong as the board itself. less shrinkage. By exhibiting a minimum of shrinkage, G-P product assure excellent job results. high quality. Georgia-Pacific quality standards and controls are some of the most rigid and best known in the industry. There are some natural precautions that should be taken with any joint compound or adhesive: 1. All powder formulas should be protected against moisture; 2. Each coat must be thoroughly dry before the succeeding coat or final decoration is applied; 3. Only clean mixing water should be used. Both water and powder should be at 55-80" F. 4. One Georgia-Pacific product should not be mixed with another Georgia-Pacific product or with another manufacturer's product. 1 5. After the joint treatment is thoroughly dry, all surfaces should be sealed or primed with a vinyl or oil base primer/sealer. This imparts a uniform texture and suction over the entire wall or celling surfaces. When the primer/sealer has dried, apply the final decoration per the manufacturer's recommendations. 6. Special Joint Finishing Recommendation for Wintertime Conditions. Cold weather, cold water, cold joint compounds and extremes of temperature due to efforts to provide heat are conditions that deserve special attention. During the application of the joint com pounds. the bond, shrinkage and working properties are all ad versely affected when they are used at temperatures significantly lower than 55JF. In order to minimize this problem, our products should be mixed with water that is 55'F or warmer, products should be stored in areas that are heated and the structures to be taped and finished should be heated to at least 55F 24 hours in advance and subsequently until drying is complete. As the building is heated after the gypsum board and joint com pound are applied, there may be shrinkage of the framing mem bers or movement due to warping of the framing or settling of the building. This can cause joint beading or nail popping. Once these conditions appear, it is advisable to postpone repairs until one complete heating season has passed. There are some procedures and products that can help to miniize problems encountered during adverse weather, particularly in the winter. We recommend: 1. Round edge board pre-fi lied with Speed Set adhesive or joint compound prior to the taping of the joints. This system will reduce the incidence of joint beading. 2. Speed Set joint compound for the first coat on corner beads. This will prevent exces sive shrinkage and provide a more secure bond at low temperatures. Under no con ditions should topping com pounds be used for the first coat over corner bead. 3. Speed Set joint compound for the embedding of the tape and the first coat over nailheads. Less shrinkage and better bonds at low tempera tures will be obtained. 2 color r coded packaging For ease of reference and to make certain that the right product is always used for the right job, Georgia-Pacific has color coded all its Joint System Products by their base properties. All Casein based products are packaged in natural kraft bags. Vinyl based products are available in yellow bags. The texturing products and the consumer line are all in white bags. When the Casein Bedding compound has thoroughly dried and whitened, cover the taped joint with G-P Casein Topping, Shear off the surplus, again leaving a uniform coverage over the tapes, and feather the edges. The binder in Triple Duty gives this product a wet life of 30 to 60 days (provided the container is kept sealed tightly to prevent drying) which allows premixing in large quantities. Triple Duty has low shrinkage and can be easily sanded. A heavy coat of anti-rust primer should be applied by brush, roller or spray, to any exposed metal and must be allowed to dry thoroughly. application of triple duty joint compound to concrete surfaces Grout in all "farm marks" and obvious imperfections with one application of Triple Duty Joint Compound and allow to dry thoroughly. Apply a second application at right angles to the previous coat and allow to dry thoroughly. Apply skim coat to insure a smooth uniform finish. The skim coat, when dry, may be touched up and lightly sanded to eliminate any unusually rough areas as well as any blade marks before the final decoration is applied. Any normal decoration or texture can be used over the finished surface. availability: In 25 lb. bags through out the U.S. 9 asbestos free ready mix products G-P ready mix This Georgia-Pacific joint compound is a prepared wet mix material to bond tape to gypsumboard for joint reinforcement, to fill and finish joints, cover and finish nail heads and comer beads and for texturing. Ready Mix has a controlled formulation and mixing qualities which result in greater coverage, uniform consistency, easier sanding and smoother workability while saving on job mixing time. For ceilings, permanent fasteners must be applied no further apart than 24" o.c.; that is, there shall be one fastener at each edge and at least one fastener in the field of the board. While there is very little that can be done to alter temperature and humidity under job conditions, care should be taken to note the average differences in drying times under different atmospheric conditions, so that problems may be minimized. Joint treat ment products must be thor oughly dry before successive coats are applied, and/or final decoration is applied. In all cases, a well ventilated area assists in the proper drying of these materials. The chart shown below indicates the average drying periods for joint treatment products under different temperature and humidity conditions. The critical point in applying gypsumboard comes when it is time to reinforce and conceal the joints. A smooth monolithic surface is required, one that will accept various types of decoration. Georgia-Pacific produces a complete line of Joint System Products that includes the latest pre-mixed compounds along with the more conventional powders suitable for either hand tools or mechanical application. All G-P products conform to ASTM Specification no. C 475 and federal specification no. SS-J-570a. There are several distinct advantages to Georgia-Pacific Joint System Products, including: mixing stability. A wet mix consistency that remains stable, means you avoid those irritating adjustments before use. plasticity. Joint System Products under the name Georgia-Pacific have exceptionally smooth application properties because of their plasticity. This plasticity enables far better control during the application and provides better shear and feather qualities. bond durability. Georgia-Pacific products develop a strength and water resistance which produces an excellent bond and joints as strong as the board itself. less shrinkage. By exhibiting a minimum of shrinkage, G-P product assure excellent job results. high quality. Georgia-Pacific quality standards and controls are some of the most rigid and best known in the industry. There are some natural precautions that should be taken with any joint compound or adhesive: 1. Ail powder formulas should be protected against moisture; 2. Each coat must be thoroughly dry before the succeeding coat or final decoration is applied; 3. Only clean mixing water should be used. Both water and powder should be at 55-80" F. 4. One Georgia-Pacific product should not be mixed with another Georgia-Pacific product or with another manufacturer's product. 1 5. After the joint treatment is thoroughly dry, all surfaces should be sealed or primed with a vinyl or oil base primer/sealer. This imparts a uniform texture and suction over the entire wall or ceiling surfaces. When the primer/sealer has dried, apply the final decoration per the manufacturer's recommendations. 6. Special Joint Finishing Recommendation for Wintertime Conditions. Cold weather, cold water, cold joint compounds and extremes of temperature due to efforts to provide heat are conditions that deserve special attention. During the application of the joint com pounds. the bond, shrinkage and working properties are all ad versely affected when they are used at temperatures significantly lower than 55"?. In order to minimize this problem, our products should be mixed with water that is 55T or warmer, products should be stored in areas that are heated and the structures to be taped and finished should be heated to at least 55F 24 hours in advance and subsequently until drying is complete. As the building is heated after the gypsum board and joint com pound are applied, there may be shrinkage of the framing mem bers or movement due to warping of the framing or settling of the building. This can cause joint beading or nail popping. Once these conditions appear, it is advisable to postpone repairs until one complete heating season has passed. There are some procedures and products that can help to miniize problems encountered during adverse weather, particularly in the winter. We recommend: 1. Round edge board pre-filied with Speed Set adhesive or joint compound prior to the taping of the joints. This system will reduce the incidence of joint beading. 2. Speed Set joint compound for the first coat on corner beads. This will prevent exces sive shrinkage and provide a more secure bond at low temperatures. Under no con ditions should topping com pounds be used for the first coat over corner bead. 3. Speed Set joint compound for the embedding of the tape and the first coat over nailheads. Less shrinkage and better bonds at low tempera tures will be obtained. 2 color r coded packaging For ease of reference and to make certain that the right product is always used for the right job, Georgia-Pacific has color coded all its Joint System Products by their base properties. All Casein based products are packaged in natural kraft bags. Vinyl based products are available in yellow bags. The texturing products and the consumer line are all in white bags. G-P bedding This compound Is designed as a fill coat and lor adhesion of the gypsumboard tape to the joints, as well as for the Initial application to nail heads and comer beads. Since it is used for this express purpose, G-P formu lates its product to maximize the taping and adhesive qualities. If desired, water may be added, after remixing, to obtain a thinner consistency. `The required soaking time may double if the temperature of the mix is much lower than 55" F. casein application The following instructions indicate the proper steps for using G-P Casein Bedding and G-P Casein Topping in making gypsumboard joints. The same procfedure applies if G-P All Purpose is used for the entire application. Apply G-P Casein Bedding to all flat joints and embed tapes. Leave a uniform thickness of compound under the tapes and shear off excess material. At the same time, cover all nail heads and corner beads with the bedding com pound. Allow the application to dry thoroughly before the next step. When the Casein Bedding compound has thoroughly dried and whitened, cover the taped joint with G-P Casein Topping. Shear off the surplus, again leaving a uniform coverage over the tapes, and feather the edges. Repeat the spotting of all nail heads and finishing of the corner beads for each subsequent application, or as many times as necessary. The bedding under the tapes and the first coat of topping over the tapes must be thoroughly dry before applying the next coat. Cover the joints again with the topping compound and shear off the excess as before, leaving a smooth, well feathered joint. Allow the joints to dry before proceeding further. The binder in Triple Duty gives this product a wet life of 30 to 60 days (provided the container is kept sealed tightly to prevent drying) which allows premixing in large quantities.
