1. Non Asbestos Profax.
a. Production. During the month, it has been decided to use the EP 5465A recipe as a 100% replacement on*all machines for all kinds of Profax.
The decision was made in order to clarify EP 5465A recipe's per- : formances on machines other than Mark Ill's. The production run was scheduled on Tuesday, May 28, 1974.
The Production Department started to use EP 5465A on:
a. #8, 1 Pc machine for #669 tops for Republic-Canton b. #3, 1 Pc machine for #75 tops c. #B, corrugated machine for #685 boards for Coppcrweld; also
the K, machine for #685 boards for Copperweld, besides all Mark Ill's.
Right after the production started, technical problems occurred on
#8, 1 Pc (cracks during forming and/or blow back operations) and
#B, corrugated (cavitations). Both problems were corrected by
adding Xl?81 to the recipe.
\
After 8 hours of production, in spite of the technical problems mentioned above, it was decided to continue working with EP 5465A recipe across-the-board.
Finally, the production was discontinued on K^, #8, 1 Pc; and B, corrugated (#8, 1 Pc and B, corrugated with no real reason).
2. Non Asbestos Proflex Boards (EP 5484).
a. Production. During the above mentioned production experimentation day, "H" Mark III machine was scheduled to produce Proflex boards out of EP 5484.
Due to the sink holes experienced during the run, the production was
stopped. The sink holes are not explained as yet and this type of
defect is experienced even while Px 31 is used.

The Technical Department decided that the problem was generated by X3580 which was used non-liquified. We asked for a second run.
On the second run, the boards presented the same defect (sinkholes) corrected by adding kerosene which confirmed the hypothesis that X3580 was in excess.
3. Non Asbestos Proflex (EP 5492). a. Production. On the same production run, #2, 1 Pc machine was used

4. Miscellaneous. a. Premix Profax at Bethlehem - Johnstown. The average scrap rate for the month was 2.727. versus 1.83X last month. The transverse strength and density were 253 p.s.i., and 0.86 g/cc respectively versus 250 p.s.i., and 0.84 g/cc for last month. The overfill and boiling problem's report was not yet released by the Production Department.
