M. Hollowing this combined meeting, there vaa a brief meeting of the Occapaticnal Health & Safety Committee. The following persons were present: 1. B. Gpaat, HB C. L. Sheckler ' .. y, H. Edwards H. Mesler - J. Yyverberg - - - " PPG Industries Johns-Manville . Owens-Corning Huberoid ` Owens-Coming Mr. Sheckler indicated that the work of the Educstica Subcommittee was progressing satisfactorily. The asbestos pamphlet bad been prepared and circulated for ' * ' r approval.' Thhee'fiber glass pamphlet will 1be/..- available for full committee review early in April. Dr. Grant pointed out that it was his understanding that both these pamphlets and the Educational Program for the coming year were to be-reviewed at a meeting of the full--.' committee. This was not done vith the asbestos pamphlet. Dr. Grant's ex hod passed before he had had a chance to review the pamphlet. He felt this was unfortunate inasmuch is he would have liked to have seen either a reference to pre-employment and periodic medical examinations of the workers or a specific limitation clearly indicating that the a cope of the pamphlet . did not Include medical control procedures. As the pempblet is at the present time, it will invite Justified criticism by the medical profession. Mr. Shecklez' is of the opinion that comments vith reference to medical ex- . animations were inappropriate-to include 1a the pamphlet. This reflects a basic disagreement within the committee which must be resolved at a later meeting of the frill committee. Although it was discussed* no action vas ' decided upon to resolve this basic difference of opinion. The fiber glass pamphlet draft prepared by the Education Subcommittee will be reviewed at a committee meeting in Hew Tori on April 16, I968. . Mr. J. M. Barnhart wished to be advised on bow be should handle requests coming to him for assistance in health related problems. The following general philosophy was agreed upon: He should first direct such requests ' to the manufacturer of the product in question. However, if no msnufscturer csn be identified or if the manufacturer of the product specifically re quested NIMA support, he should direct the request to Dr. Grant, Chairman of the Occupational Health L Safety Committee, for appropriate action. _ EXHIBIT 32 " ..J \ I cr * * * * N* -2- The current research proposals on filer glass prepared hy 'the Industrial Hygiene Foundation vere "briefly diacussed.
