SP-119 TROYKYD PERMArDRY PRODUCT: LEAD FREE LOSS OF DRY INHIBITOR Troykyd Pcrma-Dry is a cobalt compound complexcd with rare earth and alkaline earth metals. Troykyd Perma-Dry is a lead free feeder drier designed to replace the drier preferentially adsorbed by reactive pigments such as carbon black, organic reds, TiOs, etc., and to provide an adequate level of soluble drier upon aging of paints. Troykyd Perma-Dry is a lead free replacement for litharge, Troykyd Ever-Dri, and other materials used to overcome loss of dry. It should be used in all paints where loss of dry could develop on storage. The amount of Troykyd Perma-Dry required to prevent loss of dry on aging of a paint will depend on the particular pigment vehicle system. High tone carbon black pigments will generally require the highest levels of Troykyd Perma-Dry. Most paints will need 1-5 lbs. per 100 gallons of paint. The amount to be used in whites should be kept to the minimum necessary to achieve drying stability (approx. 1-2 lbs. per 100 gals.). Organic Reds and Carbon-Black paints may require 4-5 lbs. per 100 gallons. Incorporation in the pigment grind is preferable, although post-addition is possible. Troykyd Perma-Dry will occasionally act to accelerate dry, and it is therefore suggested that the amount of anti-skinning agent used be adjusted to an adequate level. High levels of Troykyd Pcrma-Dry may cause some discoloration of white enamels, as well as some reduction in the gloss of certain form ulations. However, these side effects are less apparent with Troykyd Perma-Dry than with other available lead-free feeder driers. Since this paste will tend to thicken at low temperatures, handling will be facilitated by storing Troykyd Perma-Dry at normal room temperatures over 60'F.
