TREASURY DEPARTMENT PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE
' WASHINGTON
February 5, 1935 Dr. Graham Edgar Ethyl Gasoline Corporation, 135 East 42nd Street NewYork, N* Y. My dear Dr* Edgar::
This will acknowledge reoeipt of your letter of January 28, with regard to the establishment of minimum color strengths for leaded regular gasoline*
The method of procedure for the establishment of minimum intensities, in order to obtain standards for the term ''distinctive color" has been reviewed by officers of the Public Health Service interested in this subject, together with the samples of colors of minimum intensities* I have been ad vised of the desirability of establishing such minima, and that the plan suggested seems the most practicable at the present at least. It is noted that the dyes are made by more than one company and are probably available on the market from more than one source. The Public Health Service approves your proceeding along the lines suggested*
Very truly yours, H. S. Gumming
Surgeon General
