The Laboratory for Environmental Studies has a unique capability for in vivo studies of the distribution of lead in primates by means of instrumentation developed for that purpose. This technique was a valuable adjunct of the preliminary studies of lead intoxication we have conducted during the past year, but which have been curtailed for lack of funds. The investigations we are proposing will utilize the combined facilities of the Institute of Environmental Medicine and the Laboratory for Experimental Medicine and Surgery in Primates (LEMSIP). The close proximity of the two labor atories in Sterling Forest makes these studies possible. The experience of the past two years has resulted in the development of invaluable techniques of primate experi mentation and has provided a great deal of basic data cn the metabolism of lead which will be of direct use in the analysis of the results from the proposed study.
