Monsanto, along with approximately 20 other organizations having input, has been asked to ratify it. At this point I think the issues are presented in an acceptable manner, although there is a pro environmentalist bias. Let me know by February 16 if you have major objections. The executive summary, pages 1-5A, and the section on human health effects, pages 14-21, are of special interest. As you can see from the list of contributors, organizations ranging from the Environmental Defense Fund (Ellen Silbergeld) to General Electric (Steve Hamilton and Bryce McDonald) have been involved. I have attended 4 NYAS meetings on this document in the last 4 months. As a result it contains a much more balanced view of PCB health effects, e.g. see Kimbrough quotes on pages 18 and 20, Kunita quote on Yusho on page 21, and a more accurate discussion of PCB production and uses. On controversial issues, e.g. health effects, the document attempts to reflect the range of opinion in the scientific community and not a single consensus viewpoint. A consensus would not have been possible given the diversity of the participants. Editorially speaking the document leaves much to be desired. It does not flow smoothly and contains numerous typographical errors. The editor, Scott McCreary, has been slow to correct these problems and says they are awaiting additional funding to produce a polished final copy.
