Toxic signs'were reduced appetite and activity., increasing weakness, collapse, and death. Macroscopic examination of the animals that succumbed revealed hemorrhagic lungs, slight liver discoloration, and gastrointestinal inflammation. Macrosocpic examination of those that were sacrificed revealed slight liver discoloration in the higher dosed animals, but normal visceras in the lower dosed animals. The undiluted sample was classed as mildly toxic when applied to and retained for 24 hours on the clipped Intact skin of mixed sex rabbits. The acute minimal lethal dose was greater than 1260 but less than 2000 mg/kg. Time to death was 4 to 10 days. Toxic signs were re duced appetite and activity, lethargy, increasing weakness, slight tremors, collapse, and death. Macroscopic examination of the animals that succumbed revealed lung hyperemia, jaundiced and mottled liver, enlarged gall bladder, and gastrointestinal inflammation. Macroscopic examination of those that were sacrificed revealed lung congestion, mottled and discolored liver, enlarged gall bladder, and slight gastro intestinal Inflammation. The undiluted sample was classed as a noaerate irritant when applied to and retained for 24 hours on the clipped intact skin of mixed sex rabbits. Maximum irritation (3.6/8) occurred at 24 hours of contact There was well defined erythema and slight edema. At this time the sample was removed and there was diminution of reaction during the next 4 days. Six days after removal the skin was normal. The undiluted sample was classed as a slight irritant when instilled and retained in the conjunctival sac of the rabbit eye. Maximum irri tation occurred at 1 hour of contact. The score was 8.6/110 and there vj: moderate erythema but no edema. At 24 hours of contact, score was 2/liO At this time the sample was removed and 24 hrs. later the eye was norm?.; When 6 rats were exposed to the vapors, produced by heating the sample to 250F, for a period of 6 hours there were no deaths nor were there any deaths during the 10 day observation period. There were no toxic signs. Macroscopic examination of the sacrificed animals revealed a normal viscera. It is advised that skin protective equipment be worn when handling this product.
