A group of 311 present/former W.G. Xrummrich Plant employees have baan coapilad. Eacn of tha 311 is known to have worked in Dept. 246, cased on work history racords. Information on tha causa of daath has baan obtainad on SO formar employees from this group. Evaluation of death certificates attribute 6 of those deaths to lung cancer.
A review of this population, omitting all those who worked in Oapt. 246 for lass than 6 months, yielded tha following subpopulation:
total number of employees identified deaths (all cases) deaths attributed to lung cancer
- 140 - 23 -4
when compared to the 1969 U:S. male population, this group of 23 deaths would be expected to contain 1.24 cases attributable to lung cancer. Statistical comparison of tha observed lung cancer versus the expected lung cancers yielded a highly significant cni x2 value of 7.1. This number is even more significant than the value (chi X* 6.8) obtained following evaluation of the full
50-person mortality population.
