CSimate intervention...fracking... vaccines...human genome editing...artificial intelligence... with so many complex, important, and sometimes uncertain scientific issues facing our society, there has never been a more critical time to communicate effectively. The challenges facing scientists, professional communicators, and the interested public have resulted In a growing area of research-- the science of science communication. The National Academy of Sciences is hosting its third Arthur M. Sackler Colloquium on this topic to advance a national dialogue.
Evolving from past colloquia, this Coiloquiurn wiil focus on the consensus study
report,
, as a framework
for advancing both research and practice in science communication. The
Coiloquiurn will explore ways to build capacity for and foster the use of evidence-
based strategies for engaging the public with science and ensuring its appropriate
use. Additionally, this third Colloquium wiil tackie the tough and often overlooked
organizational and infrastructure changes needed to make research-based
communication the norm.
