Physician Plant Summary Reports Regarding Medical Surveillance Program at Cottage Grove (1978-1991) Following reports o f the finding o f organic fluorine in sera samples, a fluorochemica! medical surveillance program began at 3M's manufacturing facilities in the mid 1970's. The surveillance program has generally consisted of annual or biannual tests of clinical chemistries, pulmonary function, blood counts and a biomonitor o f fluorochemical exposure. A total organic fluorine measurement was performed until 1993. This measures the amount o f fluorine that was covalently bound to carbon in the serum sample. When test data were available, a company physician reviewed each employee's results. These physicians did not, and have not, found abnormalities in individuals that they felt were related to fluorochemical exposure. Attached are 7 reports written by 3M occupational medicine physicians regarding medical surveillance program results at the Cottage Grove manufacturing site where PFOA products were manufactured.
