ADDITIONAL PROVISIONS OF AGREEMENT 2. SCOPE; CONTRACTOR agrees to furnish all labor, tools, equipment and material, and to secure all permits necessary for the com
plete performance of the work requested. ` 2. TAXES: CONTRACTOR agrees no tax (or the amount thereof) shall be added to the stated compensation except such tax as CON TRACTOR is required by law to collect from COMPANY.
3. LABOR: CONTRACTOR agrees to pay not le3s than prevailing wages, to comply with all applicable State and Federal labor laws, and to maintain Workmen's Compensation Insurance as prescribed or permitted by law, including insurance under the Longshoremen's and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act if CONTRAClOR'S executives, agents or employees are to board COMPANY vessels to perform work or to receive or deliver equipment.
4. INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR: CONTRACTOR agrees to perform the work as an independent contractor and not as an employee of COMPANY.
5. LIABILITY AND LIENS: CONTRACTOR agrees to indemnify and hold COMPANY, its ag'ents and employees, harmless from and against all loss, damage, liability, claims or liens arising out of injury to or death of persons, loss of or damage to property, or claims of work men and material men, resulting directly or indirectly from CONTRACTOR'S performance of the work; provided, however, that CON TRACTOR shall be liable for loss or damage to (a) existing COMPANY property only to the extent of CONTRACTOR'S applicable insurance which shall not be less than $25,000 and (b) the work hereunder only to the extent caused by CONTRACTOR'S negligence and then only in an amount not to exceed the contract price or $ 1,000, whichever is smaller. The above obligation of CONTRACTOR with respect to claims or liens of workmen and material men shall also be for the benefit of the owner of property on which the work is done. If required by COM PANY, CONTRACTOR agrees to furnish evidence satisfactory to COMPANY of the insurance coverage under Section 3 and this section.
6. SAFETY: CONTRACTOR agrees, while on COMPANY'S premises and vessels, to observe such safety rules as COMPANY shall pre scribe as necessary for the protection of personnel and property, and to limit smoking and the use of fire including but not limited to welding and torch cutting, to such locations and occasions as are specifically authorized in writing by COMPANY.
7. TERMINATION: COMPANY may, at its absolute discretion, stop the work at any time, but where CONTRACTOR is not in default hereunder, COMPANY agrees to pay CONTRACTOR for all work done in conformity with the plans and specifications, plus a reasonable amount representing loss, if any, sustained by CONTRACTOR thereby.
8. ASSIGNMENT: CONTRACTOR agrees not to assign, sublet or transfer this agreement, in whole or in part, except with the pre vious written consent of COMPANY.
9. RENEGOTIATION: If Section 104 of the Renegotiation Act of I 95 I applies to this contract, this contract shall be deemed to con tain all of the provisions required by said section.
10. RECORDS: CONTRACTOR shall maintain a true and correct set of records pertaining to work performed hereunder and all transactions related thereto. CONTRACTOR further agrees to retain all such records for a period of not less than two years after completion of the work performed hereunder. CONTRACTOR shall not pay any commissions, fees, or grant any rebates to any employee or officer of COMPANY nor favor employees or officers of COMPANY with gifts or entertainment of significant cost or value nor enter into any business arrangements with employees or officers of COMPANY, other than as a representative of COM PANY, without COMPANY'S written approval. Any representative or representatives authorised by COMPANY may audit any and ell records of CONTRACTOR relative to the work performed hereunder and all transactions related thereto for the sole purpose of determining whether there has been compliance with the preceding sentence.

THERMAL INSULATION FOR HOT LINES AMD VESSELS

This Specification covers the general requirements for insulating the facilities described in the attached list sheets and drawings. If conflicts exist between
nis Specification and the list sheets, the list sheets shall govern. This pacification shall control if there is a variance between it and EF forms 429 and 492 and drawings GA-K-99783 and GA-N-99785.
2.0 HOT
INSULATION
2.1 Piping shall be insulated in accordance with COMPANY form EF-492 and drawing GA-E-99783* Specified thickness of insulation does not include weather coating.
2.2 Emulsion type weather coating shall not be applied when rain or snow may wet the finished surface within 24 hours after application.
2.3 Traced lines shall be insulated by one of the methods outlined below:
(a) Over-sized rigid pipe covering, calcium silicate of a brand approved by COMPANY.
(b) Preformed "Defendex" or asbestos sponge felt or equal. Bidder shall indicate his proposed method of insulating in his bid.
Twenty-eight gage sheet metal tracer shields shall be installed by the CCrriPACTCR as shown on Detail D, Drawing GA-N-99783 in all cases. Covering sections shall all be of the same I.D. with a maximum clearance of i/4-inch between the tracer or pipe and insulation. Deviations from this technique must be approved in writing by COMPAfiY'S representative. Materials and insulating techniques used shall be ers shown on Drawing
GA-Ii-99783 except as follows:
At points where steam tracing is helically wound, an oversized insulation sleeve, tightly fitting over the pipe insulation, shall be used. The thickness of the sleeve shall be the same as that of the pipe insulation. At each such halix, the pipe insulation shall be ended at a point 1-incn short of each end of helix. The oversized sleeve shall be lapped 2 inches past the. ends of the pipe insulation.
On all steam traced lines, a bare copper wire (l4 gage) snail be.installed under the tie wire of the weather coat for the full len{gth of the steam tracer to mark its route.
2.4 Insulation shall be tied with galvanized wire as specified on Drawing GA-i:-99783.
2-5 Weather coating shall be secured with l6-gage copper wire or stainless steel bands (bidder shall indicate hisjproposed method) as specified in Weather Coating Schedule A on Drawing GA-N-99753* If aluminum

SEL3, COLUMNS, MB HEAT EXCHANGERS
3.1 Block insulation shall be applied-in accordance with COMPANY forms EF-429 and Drawing GA-N-99785* Thickness of insulation called for does not include weather coating.
3.2 Vertical vessels 3-ft and larger in diameter, operating below 35OF may be insulated with glass or mineral wool fiber blankets. Details shall be as specified in Paragraph 4.0 below.
3.3 Alternate weather coats applicable upon specific approval include:

Asbestos cement sheet 3/lb-inch thick, conforming to ASTM C-220, type F (Johns-Manville Asbestocite, or equal), applied as specified in Paragraph 4.3 below. Precurved sheets are required for diameters 10-ft and under.
3.32
Corrugated (0.016" min. thickness) or flat (0.019" min. thickness)
aluminum weather coating with vapor barrier, Childers, Premi_-tco, or approved equal, may be used if approved in inquiry or purchase order, application shall be as specified in Paragraph 4.3.
3.33
Asphalt emulsion coatings such as American Bittrails Laykold, Johns-Manville Insulkote, or other approved equal may be applied in accordance with drawing GA-N-99705* These may be used only on block or rigid insulation where temperature of insulation surface will not exceed 175E* They shall not be applied when rain Or snow may wet the finished surface within 24 hours after application.
3.34 Bidder shall specify in his bid which method he intends to use.
3.4 Nameplates and veep-hole nipples on reinforcing pads shall not be covered.
3-5 Insulation for exchanger channels shall not include insulation of channel covers. Exchanger flanges shall not be insulated.
3.6 Each section of a double pipe exchanger shall be insulated as a single unit. Continuous insulation around a multi-sectional unit is permissible only with specific written approval by COMPANY.

4.1 Shell Insulation - Tank shells shall be insulated with mineral or glass wool blankets meeting ASTM C-3&2, Class F-l, maximum temperature limit J5C'f. The material shall have a minimum density of 3 lbs/cubic ft.

Blankets shall be placed with the long dimension vertical and with vertical joints staggered. Blankets shall be secured to the tank with l4-gage galvanized wire fastened to Nelson studs (See 4.22 and 4.32) to hold blanket in place until weather-proofing is applied. The blanket insulation shall extend to within 12 inches of tank bottom. The space between bottom of insulation and tank bottom shall be filled with 12-inch high foam glass block. Blocks shall be held tight to tank with l4-gage~300 series stajnless steel wire.
4.12
Insulation shall be fitted around nozzles, mnr.wnys, and other appurtenances to allow room for bolt removal. These appurtenances shall not be insulated and weathercoat shall be completely sealed with weather-proof material to prevent leakage into the insulation. Insulation around structural members supporting stairs, etc., shall be suitably weather-proofed and flashed with aluminum (l6 gage minimum) or lead.
4.2 Asbestos Cement Sheet Weather-proofing
4.21 Materials - Weather coating shall be 3/l6-inch thick asbestos cement sheets per ASTI'i C-220 type F.
Studs (Kelson welding type or equal) shall be solid type 304 Austenitic stainless steel or composite with type 304 steel at exposed end and carbon steel at tank attachment'end. Minimum aiarneter shall be 5/l6 inch. Nelson Setlok caps, or equal, shall be used.
All external metal on the surface of the finished asbestos cement woathercccting, except flashing and stud caps, but including studs, battens and bands,shall be austenitic stainless steel. Flashing may be aluminum-(16 gage minimum) or-lead.
4.22
Installation - The 4-ft by 8-ft asbestos cement sheets shall be oriented with the long dimension horizontal, and shall be secured to tne tank with Nelson studs, or equal. Studs shall be spaced between the sheets of the asbestos cement board on 2-ft vertical centers ar.d 8-ft horizontal centers, and in addition there shall b .* one stud in the center of each asbestos cement board. Center studs shall be on 8-ft horizontal centers and 45-inch vertical centers. Studs shall be secured with a stud welding gun and tested with a light hammer blow to be sure the weld is sound. Asbestos
cement sheets shall be drilled to fit studs snugly and mastic compound shall be used to seal the outer washer to prevent entrance of water at stud holes.
Weather-proofing sheets shall be lapped 3 inches on the horizontal joints, with the upper sheet on the outside. The upper sheet shall be supported from the lower by stainless' steel "S" or "Z" clips, or by providing a supporting ledge in the batten over the vertical joint. not more than 2 inches apart; centered on studs; and the joint covered with l/l6-inch minimum thackneso by 4-inch wide Austenitic
stainless steel battens bolted to the Nelson studs on 2"ft vertical centers. The sheets shall be further secured by Austenitic stainless steel bands, 3/4-inch wide by 0.020 inches thick placed above the studs at each 3-ich horizontal lap and the center of each sheet "on approximate 2-ft vertical centers." Bands for tanks l8-ft and larger in diameter shall be secured to heavy stainless steel spring clips as shown on the attached d:*aving.
Snell insulation shall be suitably flashed with lead (minimum 2-1/2 lbs) or aluminum (l6-gage minimum) to prevent moisture from entering the insulation at openings, structural connections, or at the eaves.
4.23 Where asbestos cement sheet weather coating is to be painted, the sheets shall be primed on back and edges (before installation on tank) with a vinyl sealer such as Amercoat 1637 or equal. Purchaser shall specify whether vinyl sealer shall be used.
Aluminum Weather Coating
Aluminum weather coating may be used os an alternate when specifically approved by purchase order. When approved, the following procedures. 3naj>l Oe used.
4.31 Materials - Materials shall be 1-1/4 inGh or 2-l/2 inch deep corrugated aluminum sheet, 0.016 inch minimum thickness. Temper shall be 3/4 hard with copper content not exceeding 0.40$.
All attaching fixtures shall be Austenitic stainless steel except sheem metal screws may be either aluminum or Austenitic stainless steel. Set-Lok or equal stud caps,, which are aluminum, may be used. It is also permissible to use composite studs, i.e.. Austenitic top and carbon steel base.

All aluminum sheets shall have a vapor barrier unless specifically deleted by purchase order.
4.32
Installation - All sheets shall be lapped two-corrugations on the. vertical and 4 inches on horizontal seams (see attached drawing). Bach sheet shall be supported horizontally by two "S" clips and shall be attached to tank by three 5/l6-inch diameter Nelson
Set-Lok studs or equal on each vertical seam. Studs shall be located in the crown of corrugation nearest to edge of sheet. First stud shall be 6 inches from bottom of sheet. The other two studs shall be equally spaced between bottom studs and bottom suuds in next sheet above. Maximum vertical spacing between studs

snail be 18 inches (12-ft sheets). All studs shall be attached to tank shell with a stud welding Gun. After welding, each stud shall be checked for adherence using a light hammer blow. If stud spacing exceeds 48 inches, additional equally spaced studs shall be used. In line with and spaced on center between studs shall be a l/2-inch No. 10 sheet metal screw to assure tight contact between lapped sheets. Aluminum sheets shall be impaled on the studs using a rubber hammer. Do not drill sheets.
Horizontal joints shall'be fastened on 6-inch centers with gasketed, self-tapping, sheet metal screws (see attached drawing for spacing and types of studs and screws).
Aluminum sheeting shall be held against tne insulation by 0.020 inch by 3A~inch stainless steel bands on 4-ft maximum vertical centers. Maximum length of band without,a break shall be 75-ft- Expansion springs as shown on the attached drawing shall be installed in each band. Folded bands, corrugated bands, or equal are not acceptable tensioning devices because cl" relaxation tendencies. Bands shall be supported with U-clips fastened to the l/2-incb No. 10 sheet metal screws shown in the attacned drawing.
Weather coating shall terminate 2 inches - l/4-inch from tank bottom. Typical details for finishing top of weather coating are suown in the attached drawing GB-124924.
Hoof insulation shall be 12-lb Fiberglas roof deck, J-M Thermobestos, or approved equals, and shall be secured by impaling the blocks on preposi tioned studs. Studs of the type required for tank shells shall be spaced to provide four studs per block of insulation. Lengths of studs shall equal the thickness of the insulation. CONTRACTOR may finish the roof with l/4-inch tnick Asbestocite or approved equal asbestos cement sheets meeting ASTM C-22G, Class F. Or, CONTRACTOR may mop down with a l/2-inch thick, layer of fiberboard with joints butted and finished with a built-up roof consisting of four layers of 15-lb asphalt saturated asbestos roof ing felt guaranteed for a 20-year life. Details of roof design proposed, togetner witn Planning detail around roof connections, and at eaves, shall ae furnished by CONTRACTOR for approval by COMPANY* Wind damage to the roof v.'ili be evidence of faulty workmanship or materials under the terras of the guarantee.
5 CONTRACTOR shall submit details of his proposed construction with his quotation showing size and spacing of bands, type of band tensioning springs, type of insulation and weather-proofing to be used, spacing of Nelson studs, details of expansion joints,- details of weather-proofing around tank connections, details of roof flashing, roof insulation details and weather-proofing details.

MISCELLANEOUS EQUIPMENT
Pumps, turbines,, and other miscellaneous equipment shall be insulated with block insulation or a combination of block and plastic insulation. Block insulation material selection and application for miscellaneous equipment shall be in accordance with drawing GA-N-99785* Block insulation shall be used on all large, flat or curved surfaces and any other surface which does not necessitate complicated fitting of blocks. Care shall be taken to leave access to pump and turbine glands and other points requiring periodic maintenance.
5.1 Jckr.s-Mauvilie ho. 450, or equal, plastic insulation shall be used on any surface which is not suited to block insulation, but the use of plastic insulation shall be kept to a minimum. Insulation shall be applied on clean surfaces to recommended thicknesses. If a second layer is required, plastic insulation shall be allowed to set and 1-inch by 20-gage galvanized hexagonal mesh applied over the entire plastic insulation surface with butted joints laced together with No. 18 gage galvanized iron wire and secured to the insulation with l-l/2-inch copper vine staples, placed to hold mesh snugly against the insulation. The insulation, when dry, shall be covered vith weather coating similar to that used over vessels and exchangers having the same type of insulation.
MATERIALS AND FACILITIES FURNISHED BY COMPANY
6.1 COMPANY will furnish at job site fresh water, air, and electricity as stated in the contract or purchase order.
6.2 COMPANY will furnish expansion joint ribs, stiffening rings, and skirt angle clips on vessels and columns.
6.3 COMPANY will install steam tracers but will not install sheet metal or aluminum foil shields around tracers.
6.4 COMPANY will provide CONTRACTOR with necessary working space at job 6ite and a storage area within a reasonable distance from job site for materials, supplies, tools, and equipment, but will not furnish means for protecting these from the elements. COMPANY will provide right-of-way making these areas accessible to CONTRACTOR and his equipment.
6.5 COMPANY will furnish staging for insulation of piping. CONTRACTOR may use sue:, staging at CONTRACTOR'S risk. Should suitable staging not be available to CONTRACTOR when required, written agreement shall be reached in the field on the extra due CONTRACTOR for furnishing his own staging. fork shall not proceed until this extra work has been properly authorized.
MATERIALS ANT WORK FURNISHED BY CONTRACTOR
7-1 CONTRACTOR shall provide all labor, tools, special equipment, and materials for a complete insulation Job in every detail, except those listed in Section 6.0 as being furnished by COMPANY.

CONTRACTOR will furnisivall staging required for tanks and vessels. Staging must meet local requirements for safety. CONTRACTOR shall quote his allowable bid reduction for staging for each piece of equipment in the event COMPANY staging is available for his use.
7.4 CONTRACTOR shall remove all insulation, debris, tools, equipment and excess material immediately upon completion of the job.

8.1 Work shall be performed in accordance with COMPANY'S time schedule, as stated in the contract or purchase order. It must be. understood by CONTRACTOR that this contract is a part of the construction of a complex process plant and work must be done as available and in the presence of other working crafts.
8.2 No substitution of materials specified herein will be permitted unless requested by CONTRACTOR in his quotation and specifically approved in writing by COMPANY. Substitutions proposed by CONTRACTOR must, in his view, provide overall quality for the job equal to or better than that provided by specified materials.
9.0 INSPECTION AND GUARANTEE
9.1 All work shall be subject to inspection by the COMPANY.
9.2 CONTRACTOR shall guarantee the work for a period of at least three (3) years after final date of completion and acceptance by COMPANY. CONTRACTOR shall repair at his own expense all defects due to faulty materials or workmanship as determined within time limits of the guarantee period.
10.0 SAFETY AND REFINERY REGULATIONS
Frior to commencement of work, CONTRACTOR shall obtain information from purchaser's construction superintendent regarding refinery regulations concerning use of vehicles, gate passes, smoking, identification of employees, safety measures, and similar practices to be followed within refinery limits. CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for compliance with these regulations.
11.0 SCHEDULE OF PAYMENTS
11.1 Payment for insulation of vessels, tanks, exchangers, and miscellaneous equipment will be based on the lump sum bid for each item submitted by CONTRACTOR and accepted by COMPANY.

and fittings will be based on the price of one linear foot of pipe
insulation of tne same size times the multiplication factors for the

CONTRACTOR'S proposal accepted by COMPANY. Lengths of all piping shall be based upon actual field measurements taken by representatives of COMPANY and CONTRACTOR-together. COMPANY may waive the right to have a representative present, in which case COMPANY will accept CONTRACTOR'S measurement.
11.31 Insulated straight piping shall be measured as such, from end to . end of insulation.

Where uninsulated fittings such as valves, flanges, etc. occur in the straight run of piping, they shall be excluded from measure
ment. Mating flanges for uninsulated fittings shall also be excluded from measurement.
Where a miter occurs in the piping, the straight run of piping shall be measured on the center of the miter along the axis of the pipe.

Where an insulated stub-in tee, or Y connection, occurs in the straight piping, the branch line shall be measured to the first point of contact of bare metal on the straight run of piping. The straight run of piping shall be measured through the tee, including the length of the.tee as part of the run. Stub-in tees or butt welding tees shall not be counted as a separate fitting when computing compensation due CONTRACTOR.

Measurements of insulated lines containing insulated valves, flanges, bends, reducers, strainers, unions, and caps shall exclude the length of the fitting and its mating flanges, if any, as part of the run.
The number of fittings including bends shall be determined by actual field count.
11.37 No allowance will be made for interference at clamps, brackets, anchors, hangers, shoes, etc.
11.4
Miscellaneous repairing and patching of existing lines and equipment may be requested by COMPANY'S representatives. Prior to performance of such work, authorization must be made by COMPANY'S Representative and the basis for payment made by mutual agreement.
11.5
In special cases where no factor for payment has been specified, or where the above rules do not apply, CONTRACTOR shall obtain COMPANY'S written approval as to payment before starting work or suffer the loss of any rights to claim payment.
