I. PURPOSE
A. To provide a program of pre-employment health appraisal which will obviate the placement of individuals with chronic pulmonary disease in an area of continuing contact with airborne asbestos fibers.
B. To provide uniform medical surveillance of employees who might possibly inhale airborne asbestos fibers.
II. OBJECTIVE A. Early detection of pulmonary disease, such as Mesothelioma. B. To conform with OSHA Standard 1910.93a
HI. PROCEDURE
A. Within thirty calendar days following employee's first assignment to an occupation where inhalation of airborne asbestos fibers is possible; annually thereafter for employees still possibly exposed, and within 30 calendar days of termination of such employment, management must ensure that the employee undergo the following diagnostic procedures:

Comprehensive Physical Examination, Medical history to elicit symptomatology of respiratory disease.
14 x 17 inch posterior-anterior chest xray. Pulmonary function test, including Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) and Forced Expiratory Volume at 1 second (FOT^). Complete blood count, urinalysis and SMA-12.
B. No medical examination is required of a BASF Wyandotte Corporation employee who is being tranferred to an assignment where he may possibly inhale airborne asbestos fibers if Medical Department records Indicate that the employee has been examined as outlined above within the past year.
C. The corporation must maintain these medical records for a period of at least 20 years.
D. The contents of records of these required medical examinations should be made available for inspection, and copy to the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health, the

Director of NIOSH, to authorized physicians and medical consultants of either of them, and upon the request of an employee or former employee, to his physician. Any physician who conducts a medical examination as outlined above shall furnish BWC all the information specifically required and any other medical information related to occupational exposure to asbestos fibers.
