The ta n k was steam ed and flu s h e d w ith f i r e h o se, and p a r t i a l rem oval o f / sludge was e ffe c te d . At the tim e the sample o f sludge was ta k en , th e re
was approxim ately S o r 4 wheel barrow lo ads o f t h i s sludge rem aining i n th e ta n k . The ta n k fo rm e rly had a p p ro x im a te ly l / 2 to 5 /4 in c h e s o f s o f t sludge over the surface o f th e bottpm of the tan k .
This ta n k had been i n crude o i l s to ra g e f o r some number o f y e a rs th en cleaned fo r n ap th a se rv ic e and f i n a l l y re p o rte d to have been i n 100 Octane A v iatio n G asoline se rv ic e f o r approxim ately six m onths.

The gad g e t i s moved q u ite r a p id ly a c ro ss th e p la te s to p re v e n t c u ttin g a h o le i n th e s te e l p la te s . Also the in te n se h eat causes such a r is e in tem perature on the co rro sio n , the .cale f a l l s o ff due to expansion and c o n tra c tio n .
This method o f u sin g th e o x y -acety len e flam e was developed by . L inde A ir P ro d u c ts Co. t o prim e ta n k s f o r p a i n t i n g .
