Markey From Bobby Hawkins Date : July 30, 1981 Subject * "0" RING FAILURE' At time of 0 ring failure on the south fresh VCM filter pack I was in A1 Sather office working on the blanking list for shutdown. I heard W. West call control room to report that 0 ring had blown out on the south filter pack and he was clearing all the new unit area out. At this point Al, Jerry Roberts, and I left office going to the new unit. While on the way the evacua tion alarm was set off. I checked wind socks to see which way to enter the area. The wind was blowing to the northeast. When I entered area W. West and S. Kilgore had the south fire monitor going on the filter and was putting on scott air packs. A1 started put the south west monitor spraying on this filter pack. I got with Al, we decided to cut water off of reactors to give more water to receiver area. I monitored south back area with HNU meter for 15 minutes. I did not pick up any readings in this area, Kilgore and W. West went in with scott air packs and isolated inlet's discharge valves to filter pack. After Reeves gave word for work to start back in the old reactor area, slurry blend tank area and new dryer area, Curry wanted to know if any readings were ind dryer area. I left to check dryer area. No reading were picked upon the HNU meter untill I got in northeast comer of the new unit. Some people were working on sub station "B", I gave these people word to leave. Randle Jackson was making the round with me. 4 p.p.m was in this area..
