QUALITY CONTROL TESTING METHOD TITLE: SCOPE: DATE: May, 1972 METHOD NO.: 2-16 Determination of Gels (Becton-Dickinson) This method is designed to check for the presence of unwetted resin and fibrous contamination in a Plastisol paste. APPARATUS: 12-oz. Paper Cup Toledo Scale Lighting Mixer Desiccator 6" x 6" Glass Plate Vacuum Pump CHEMICALS: Sample to be Tested DOP PROCEDURE: 1. To a tared 12-oz. paper cup add 50 gms of resin and 55 gms of DOP. 2. Stir with lighting mixer for 1-1/2 minutes. Add an additional 15 gms of DOP and stir for another 50 seconds. 5* Deaerate for 15 minutes. 4. Cast a 7-mil film with the drawdown blade on a 6" x 6" glass. Count number of gels in a 4-1/2" square. REPORT: The number of gels found in a 4-1/2" square. If any sam ple is over 18 gels,, let the paste stand for 1 hour and repeat the test. H.B.
