My deadline is fairly flexible but I'm hoping to publish by the end of next week. If there's no one available I can try to adjust that.

Hi Robert,
Thank you. I'd like to speak with someone by early next week. And I noted some of my questions below; it's general advice for anyone who is looking for ways to keep their home cool and is worried about high utility bills (which is probably a lot of us during this heat wave!). For instance, how effective are light-blocking curtains or thermal shades? Are there steps people can take who live in a rented home with only a window unit air conditioner to help cool their space? For anyone in an older home, what are some things they can do to improve efficiency and cooling? More questions will arise from conversation but I hope to speak with someone who has some ideas in mind that I may not have thought of.
Many thanks for your assistance!

Dear Ms. McMahan,
My colleagues in the Energy Star program have forwarded me your inquiry. Thanks very much for reaching out. Do you have a deadline? Also, can you send more specific questions, so we know exactly who to direct your inquiry to?
Thanks in advance, R.

Hi there, I'm a freelance contributor to NBCNews.com working on a piece for their BETTER vertical with the working title Keep Cool and Carry On. I'm looking for an expert to help advise consumers how to keep their home as cool as possible without a sky-high utility bill. This could be for folks with older/less efficient AC, or someone renting a place with a less than ideal situation like a window unit that can't keep up, or people like me with an upper floor in an old house that can't get cool no matter how much insulation we cram in the attic. What really works? Did grandma know best with drawing the shades? Do light blocking curtains help? Is it true that a fan actually warms a room up by the electric it generates? And so on. Could you help connect me with an expert who would be interested and available to speak with me for the story ? Thanks so much, I look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers, R. Robert Daguillard
