Ci harles B. "ChEixp. 6" Bowlins, Jr.! January 3, 2017 Transition Team President-Elect Donald Trump Dear Transition Team, As a lifelong family farmer, a successful entrepreneur, and a volunteer-leader in both state and local government and within the agriculture industry, I see firsthand the impact government has on our lives every day. Government has gotten too big, too complicated, and too powerful. I want to be on the front lines to reform it as a member of the President-elect's administration. I am interested in serving in many capacities, but the positions that best fit my background and experience are USDA Deputy Secretary, EPA Deputy Administrator, NRCS Chief, and EPA Counselor on Agriculture. Over the past 30 years, I have built and run successful businesses, served my community, and risen to national leadership roles in my industry. I served as president of the National Corn Growers Association, the nation's largest commodity organization, and am currently vice chairman of U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance, which represents nearly too farmer- and rancher-led organizations and agricultural partners. I have spent my career building things, leading teams and operations, solving problems, and making tough decisions. I will put my background and leadership experiences to work on day one for the Trump administration. The two government agencies with the greatest impact on farmers are USDA and EPA. Unfortunately, neither department has enough actual farmers among its ranks. Two years ago, I hosted a group of EPA employees on my farm in southern Maryland to talk about the Waters of the U.S. rule. I was surprised and disappointed to find that many of them had never set foot on a farm. It's no wonder so many government regulations lack common sense. That has to change--and that change starts here, with farmers like me. For too long, we farmers have kept our heads down, working hard to feed and fuel the world. I am stepping up to serve because I believe we can make American agriculture even better. I want to roll back unnecessary government regulations, find common-sense solutions, and continue to grow America's successful ethanol industry. We must ensure that farming remains a viable business, and that America continues to have the safest and most affordable food supply in the world. I am an outsider who will bring a fresh perspective and new ideas to make government work better for everyone. I look forward to discussing how I can serve the administration, and thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Charles B. "Chip" Bowling Sierra Club v.
