Interoffice Communication To File From T. G. Grumbles Date May 27, 1982 Subject LPA INGESTION CALL RESPONSE A call was received on May 24 from Dick Winstanley, Oak Brook, to inform me that he had received a call from Mike Tendick, Lamplighter Farms, con cerning an incident of LPA ingestion. He needed information concerning the aromatic content and potential health effects of the product. I contacted Mr. Tendick and he gave me the details of the incident. He had been contacted by a Dr. Taylor in Mexico, Missouri. A one year old child had ingested approximately 1 ounce of LPA and had been hospitalized for treatment. (Subsequent calls indicated the child was in the hospital for 2 days and 1 night. Some pneomonitis had ocurred indicating some aspiration after ingestion. The child had been released with no other observable effects.) Dr Taylor had requested the information. We told Mr. Tendick that product specs for LPA indicated 1% maximum total aromatics and 0.1% typical. No long term health effects were known to be attributable to ingesting small amounts of the solvent. Dr. Drumwright, Chemicals Medical Director was alerted of the situation and was available by phone if necessary. Mr. Tendick relayed this information to Dr. Taylor. As indicated. Dr. Taylor was pleased with the information received and the child is in good condition. Thomas G. Grumbles ajo cc Dr. Drumwright CCR 000002010
