INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE PROJECTS: BEAUMONT O/A FACILITY We have reviewed your October 29, 1982 memo which prioritizes industrial hygiene-related projects at the Beaumont 0/A facility. The following summarizes current/planned activities by our group in order to complete those projects in which we have direct involvement. Project__________________________ _______________________ Action Develop a suggested IH sampling strategy for O/A, including use of MIHS. Meeting scheduled with D. W. Crawford, December 1, 1982 to develop sampling strategy. Request Mobil Acceptable Exposure Standards Committee to establish an AES for Dimethylformamide (DMF), communicate to Engineering, review new toxicity data developed by several U.S. companies. While an AES has already been adopted (OSHA PEL equals ACGIH TLV), we will continue to work with Mobil Toxicology to evaluate any newly released health hazard information on DMF. Evaluate service cost and turnaround time for process ing IH samples at USM&R's Technical Service Lab. A cost comparison has been completed and the results indicated that a considerable cost savings may result from utilization of TSL. It is suggested that Petrochemicals submit samples to TSL on a trial basis to determine actual turnaround time. A further evaluation of TSL compatibility with our needs will be conducted at a later date. Review use of Passive IH monitoring methods with MCC IH and Safety managers. Make recommendations on use, application, etc. (plant to run several comparative samples before November 1, 1982.) Preliminary results from work performed in Films/Plastics has indicated good correlation between passive dosimeters and traditional charcoal tubes. Feasibility of using/verify ing passive dosimetry at O/A will be discussed with D. W. Crawford during our December 1 meeting. 18392? 003263 L. MCC/R&E Industrial Hygiene is in the process of developing respirator guidelines which will include Fit Test Procedures. These should be issued the first half of 1983. This subjet will be addressed during the first half of 1983. In addition per your previous request, attached is the complete listing of Mobil Acceptable Exposure Standards (AES) as well as all Petrochemicals Division Exposure Data contained in the MIHS syscem.
