IAD-IH-77.07 DATE August 26, 1977 AUTHOR Dannie Kennedy DATE V- 9-i -77 SUMMARY A walk-through noise survey was recently conducted aboard the Towboat Leviticus to determine noise levels and identify areas where hearing protection is required. The diesel engines were identified as the major noise source. The areas adversely affected by this high level noise source were the engine room, the deck above the engine room, the main work deck near the engine exhausts, the generator room in front of the engine room and the stairway leading into the engine room. The noise levels are sufficiently high to require hearing protection when working in these areas and caution signs must be prominently displayed to identify these problem areas.
