FliOM TO- Loss Control Department 1 Cody Mil burn All Supervisors A couple of recent incidents indicate that we have become somewhat lax in our attitude toward how asbestos must be handled. Extreme caution must be exercised when handling asbestos ladden material for the following reasons: 1) Asbestos is an insidious known carcinogen which effects the lungs. Care must be taken to protect worker health. . 2) The law requires that asbestos be handled in a certain prescribed manner. Attention to certain details such as the proper protective equipment (respiratory protection, protective clothing, footwear, etc..),removal techniques, and proper disposal procedures can not be circumvented. Asbestos is one of those compounds within the refinery that we must henceforth handle with extreme caution.
