At a regular meeting of the Directors of John T. Lewis & Bros. Company, held this day in their office at 2607 E. Cumberland St., Philadelphia, there were presentt J. W. Gardiner, President A. H. Wilson, Vice President M. H. Merritt, Secretary L. T. Beale, Director Geo. A. Watts, Director Mr. Kevin, General Superintendent, was asked to join the meeting. The meeting was called to order by Mr. J. W. Gardiner, who presided, and Mr. M. H. Merritt reported the minutes of the meeting. r, The minutes of the meeting of December 15th were read and approved. \ IHv- It was reported that an application had been sent to Hew Tork for $2677.61):.; to cover the necessary repairs to the 12" sewer on Aramingo Avenue and j' that approval had been received under C&R Ho. 6546. j An interim application has been sent to New Tork for a C&R in the amount I of $2600.00 to cover the cost of purchasing and installing a new washing machine in our factory laundry. An interim application has been sent to Hew Tork for the amount of "t $2250.00 for a C&R to cover the cost of replacing the arch in our #1 boiler. In the interest of local public relations, we discussed the possibility of renting for $1.00 a year to the local boys' club the vaoant lot adjoining our new office building. A lease has been prepared by Mr. Henrleh and the matter has been referred to Mr. Wildner. The resignation of Mr. 8. French Reeves as Director of this company effective Jan. 1, 1949 was presented and accepted by the Board with deep regret. On motion duly made and seconded it was decided to continue for the first six months of 1949 the subsidy of $83.33 par month to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth P. DuOan for the operation of our Factory Lunch Room, which is on the same basis as heretofore. The report of Mr. H. B. Rhell, our Assistant Treasurer and Credit Manager, was presented. It shews as per the attached that it has only been necessary to charge off to bad debts $276.72 during the year 1948. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was decided to reeommend an additional subscription of 10 to 20 to the Philadelphia Community Chest Fund. It was decided to continue our membership in the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce at a cost of $200 which is the same as last year. NL 000040720 Philadelphia, Pa.
