Wobus (2) Roberts Building DEPARTMENT 246 - ESTIMATE NO. 8285 INSTALL BIPHENYL STORAGE TANK Attached are two (2) copies of Estimate No* 8283 for your use in preparing the final Justification to the Office of the Vice President* The project is to install a new steel above-ground Biphenyl storage tank, with the accessory pumps and piping, to replace two (2) - 18,000 gallon underground storage tanks, which have deteriorated beyond repair, 'nils is not an earnings projeot, but a necessary addition for proper department operation. The underground tanks were found to be unusable last year, and a 25,000 gallon tank was installed on a temporary foundation as an expedient. Mr. Hashbarger has stated that a 50,000 gallon tank is required, based on the need for Biphenyl storage within the foreseeable future (Reference 1 and 2). The 25,000 gallon tank came from the Chlorobenzol Department, where it was a spare for several underground tanks of the same size. Production Supervision has stated they would like it returned. In order to provide sufficient storage capacity to meet our consultmerits made to General Electric In 1952, a 150,000 gallon tank Is also being used for Biphenyl storage. This tank is twenty years old and is now leaking. As stated In Reference 1 letter, we no longer need more than that capacity required for Department 246 operations, and this tank can be scrapped when it becomes unusable.
