A copy of Mr. Wodka's business card is attached. I believe he works for Mr. Anthony Mazzocchi. They were also accompanied by Mr. "Kip" Phillips and Mr. "Red" Salyers, local Union Committeemen. We started off with George Speed discussing the PVC process with the simplified flow sheet on a transparency. George then went into details of what we have been doing to reduce VCM exposure in the same manner I reported to you in my memo to you of 25 June relative to our telephone conversation of 21 June (Item 2 - SanfoTd Beck Indoctrination). George's status report of 24 May was the main basis of this review. After some questions by Mr. Wodka, we toured the PVC plant and the Emulsion plant. We basically told Mr. Wodka that we had reduced VCM levels from about 200 ppm in January to 25-35 ppm average currently. We verified that we felt there was no way to get to I ppm or less. We told him our target was 10 ppm and that we didn't know for sure that we would get there but that we would exert every effort to do so. Based on my opinion of descending importance, Mr. Wodka's main concerns were as follows. I believe in general that he was favorably impressed with what we were doing. 1. He felt strongly that "impervious" suits should be provided for reactor cleaning since he was certain that VCM was absorbed through the skin. He stated it xeally bothered him to see people cleaning reactors with fresh air masks, but without impervious suits. He stated that Goodrich and Goodyear were providing such suits and did not see why we did not. Later conservation with John Barr indicated that Goodrich and Goodyear are using disposable clothing with less than satisfactory results. 2. He felt that we sould provide a daily change of clothing with mandatory showers. We told him that we were doing this in Compound because of lead and that we felt that because of the high vapor pressure of VCM that there was no way that VCM could be taken into their homes.
