(897,898) North Carolina Talc -- The presence o f tremolite has not been d etected in our source o f ta lc (The H itchcock Corporation, Murphy, North Carolina). Our X -R a y diffraction examination program started in August 1971 and th is North Carolina tide has never thown the presence o f any asbestos m inerals. 1 These results were determ ined by several independent consulting laboratories. 2. It is unfair and inaccurate to claim that a ta lc is good or bad by its origin from a certain sta te or area In the United Sta tes. While this type o f classification m akes it easy fo r reporting purposes, it can lead to certain Incorrect conclusions based on Table m -2 , that is, (a) all Alabama and Arkansas ta lcs (as exam ples) are fre e o f asbestos form minerals and can be free ly used; and (b) a ll North Carolina ta lcs contain asbestos form m inerals and cannot be used even fo r industrial purposes.
