RESULTS OF CALL
Gaco Western - Seattle, Washington - Bill ShacklefoAd,Tzchnical ViAzctoA. Gaco pAeviously uszd JM 7MS5 in theiA mastics and RG244 in theiA uAethanes. WISHA is thz statz of Washington enforcement agzncy and whzn thz asbzstos standard issuzd theiA znfoAcemznt pzopZz took a strong stanzz on asbzstos uszAS. If you use asbzstos in youA plant WISHA is AzquiAzd to inspzct youA plant annually. Although Bill admittzd that thzy had mon itored thz aiA and wzaz bziow thz AzgulatoAy limits thzy didn't coaz for WISHA coming in annually for an inspzction so thzy formulated asbzstos out of thziA pAoducts. Thz Canadian was Azplaczd with mini-fibers and 244 was Azplazzd with Bzntonz both of which oaz not on thz WISHA Azgulatzd pAoducts list so thzy havz eliminated thz annual inspzction. ThzAz is no way thzy will AetuAn to using asbestos as long as it is Azgulatzd and thzy oaz subjected to an annual inspzction accoAding to Bill no mattzA what thz nzvziant facts oaz conceAning asbestos ana 'thz health, toxicology, and thz Azgulations issues.
GuaAdsman - Seattle, Washington - Bob Vailzy. PuAchasing Manager; FAzd KeAn, Tzchncial ViAzctoA. This GuaAdsman location was faAmenta thz Tzchncial Res eanch CoAponation and both Fazd and Bob wzaz pant owneAS who wzaz bought out. FAzd calls all thz shots. Bob advised after listening to ouA pitch on asbestos and hz aAAangzd faA us to get togeiheA with FAzd in thziA conference Aoom. Aftzn FAzd leaAned that wz wzaz toying to discuss asbestos being uszd in thziA fanmulations hz advised that thzy do not and would not usz any Azgulatzd pAoduct in their fanmulations. kcconding to FAzd once a pnoduct has been dztznminzd to be a cancinogzn, toxic, on is Azgulatzd thzy immediately fand a substitute and Azplacz it. As evidence FAzd gave thz wniteA thz attached UCC notifi cation on thein glycol-zthzns that hz just Azceivzd and has begun thz pnocess of rzfonmulating his pnoducts with substitutes. Thz attitude in thz Seattle anea seems to be quite haAdznzd not only to asbestos but any Azgulatzd pAo ducts with a few exceptions. Thz total potential in thz aoea does not appean to bz that laraz to begin with and considering thz majonity of accounts, according to Ostenlund, have thz attitudes zncounteAzd heAz and at Gaco Westznn, bAoadzning of oua sales in this aAea seems zxtAemely aemotz. In addition Bob phoned two othzn potential asbestos uszns and thzy wouldn't even agAzz to see us and discuss thz subject of using asbestos.
Ashai-Pzn Paints - Seattle, Washington - Doug KeiA, Technical ViAzctoA. As hoi formulatzd an zxtznioA tzxtuAed coating containing SG210 that thzy expected to expoAt to Japan but thz sales nzvzA developed and thzy haven't made thz pAoduct in ovza a yeoA. Thzy essentially oaz a tAadz sales house and although Doug would at least discuss . asbestos he seemed extAemely waAy that hz wanted to get involved with it. SuApAisingly afteA discussing oua cuAAznt markets faA 244 Voug asked faA a sample of it to toy in thz lab which OsteAhund will pAovidz. Hz is looking foA a numbeA of thz inheAznt character istics 0)5 asbestos in thz formulation hz is going to tAy it in to szz if it can solve his pAoblems but my impAession is that even if wz oaz technically successful wz will still havz a long Aoad to hoz bzfoAz wz would bz able to convince, them they could usz it. OsteAhund well follow up with Voug on thz Aesults of his evaluation and advise thz wniteA of thz Aesults.

ACT!VITV: Sales calls. made. with Man.cos Ve La Iglesia of Harrison's Oiosfield, Washington In the

RESULTS OF CALL
American Tan. - Seattle, Washington - Pon Vavis, Production Manager. Von advised he had received his pallet of SGZ10 to try In their aluminized coatings and has It set up to test next week. Our price has been against us as Is typical In their straight black asphaltics. American has looked at both Mini Fibers and Hercules's Proplex and find that they do make a suitable coating at one tenth the loading of asbestos but both have problems related to ash residue. At $1.70/lb the synthetic fibers at a 7 0S replacement level are still higher In cost than asbestos and are not a real threat as American prefers asbestos and would only switch If the Industry went asbestos f$ree.
Chem Grate - Woodlnville, Washington - Virginia Turner, Purchasing Manager. Virginia
coordinates purchasing for both the Chem Grate and Chem Proof companies on site here.
Chem Grate manufactures Industrial FRP grates and Chem Proof manufactures FRP storage
tanks and piping. Both Chem Grate and Proof both use silica in different applications.
Chem Grate uses it for putty and patchwork and Chem Proof uses it In laminating parts
together, discussed RG244 as a competitive product
tire silica and Virginia re
quested a sample for evaluation along with two of our brochures. She will handle the
lab evaluation for Chem Grate and will pass on our literature to the Chem Proof chemist
to look over. Marcos will follow up with Virginia on the results of her evaluation
and also with the other potential at Chem Proof.
Refcoa - Seattle, Washington - Vave Ellsworth, Chemist. Vave was familiar with 244 having evaluated <t -cn the past In a Verakane resin on the recommendation of Vow. It didn't do the job he wanted it to In the Verakane as it was too efficient and gave them too high of a thix Index. He finally settled on Mini Fibers as the best choice con sidering all the variables he was dealing with. They use Cab-o-Sil now In their putties but after discussing the virtures of 244 Vave requested a sample of it as he felt it would give them better strength properties than silica. Marcos will deliver ti\e sample and follow up on Vave's work with it.
