I cannot tell frost our records whether you have been Informed concerning the copyrighted FMSI numbering System.
TO AUTHORIZE A CUSTOMER TO USE COPYRIGHTED FMSI NUMBERS
Should rate of your customers wish to put out catalogs, advertising, price lists, etc. using the FMSI Numbers, there is a general format for a letter suggested.
See Bulletin No. 266 of July 21, 1964, copy enclosed. This is a letter form which lets the member authorize a customer to use the FMSI Numbers. Note that the customer must imprint the copy acknowledging the FMSI copyright. Also, this permission can only be granted for linings purchased
from Standeo.
TO ADVISE THE INSTITUTE OF COPYRIGHT AUTHORIZATIONS
About every two years, the Institute sends out a questionnaire concerning authorizations to use the copyright. These questionnaires list existing authorizations on file in the office and ask for an up-date.
This information is, of course, confidential. Copies of this form are attached. Would you please indicate under Section 1 any customer using your products whom you authorize to use the copyrighted FMSI Numbers. This should not be an EDP print-oht of all customers. It should be a brief list of those customers (if any) using the FMSI Numbers in their catalogs, their price lists, etc.
I repeat that this information is confidential. Also, this is one of the methods we use to enforce our copyright. It is most important that this
copyright be protected.

Their efforts have been directed mainly at heavy duty industrial, but doing considerable business in truck blocks and truck clutches. I would like to explain the attached statement to you, as my earlier contacts had been with Mr, Dunn.
At the beginning of the fiscal year (July 1, 1971) Standee had a credit balance of $12.00 - we had earlier received your payment twice for the same invoice.
Then we billed half of the annual charge. After some correspondence with Mr. Dunn, this was adjusted from $1,500, sem|*mnnuaily to $350. semi-annually. (See our $650. adjustment in the Debit column) In meanwhile, we had received

This refers to your <-bly 12, 1971 notes concerning our July 1, 1971 billing of the annual fee.
This problem is th same as that on which you and Miss Duschek corresponded through th Fall of 1970 -- the number of categories in which you are engaged. If you report three categories, you will be billed for three categories and that is what happened. A copy of your declaration, which was sent to Counsel, is attached.
You assured Miss Duschek in letters of October 21, 19"*, ".-vz^-sr 25, 1970 and December 14, 1970 that yor.r brake lining and brake blocks are special purposes and not sold to the automotive market, and that your clutch facings are the only product which you market which could use the F.M.S.I. numbers.
Pleas advise me in writing that yc*jr brake 1 iningpand brake blocks are special purpose and are not marketadtin applications where F.M.S.I. numbers are used. Also, pleas file an amended declaration marking on category only clutch
facings.
