According to the OSHA Compliance Officer, inspections are only conducted in those facilities that have a lost workday injury (1WDI) rate equal to or higher than the national average. The national average for our industry is 4.9.
,
In calculating the LWDI, it should be noted that an injury
is the result of a work accident or front exposure involving
a single incident. An injury would not be strains, sprains,
etc. that are the result of repeated motions (such as lifting)
that are performed during the normal course of an employee's
duties. Tor instance, an employee complains to his foreman
that he has strained his back and it was caused by lifting
heavy pipe all day. This employee's condition is not the result
of a specific incident, but it is the result of repeated trauma
and should be recorded in the illness category under column 7F
of the OSHA hog 200.
'.
It may he beneficial to your plant to calculate your hWDI rate
so you will know your status if you are ever visited by an
OSHA Inspector-. An example of the calculation and an OSHA
letter explaining their safety inspection targeting program
are attached. '
