Kehoe Kettering Laboratory of Pathology University of Cincinnati Cincinnati, Ohio Dear Dr. Kehoe: In thinking over our toxicity problem -with the methanol-watertetraethyl lead solution it has occurred to me that we have four fellows in our laboratory who have handled the finished solution with no more precaution than would be used for alcohol anti-freeze. Cars have been served with the solution in open containers, the solution has been used to calibrate the Vita-Meter units with repeated wetting of the hands of the tester, and the solution has been standing in open containers in the garage. One of the first things I would like to have you consider doing is to observe the handling procedure in our garage and to examine the people who have been using the solution. Possibly this should be done soon to make sure that we have not already made some mistakes. I am looking forward to receiving your recommended program and I hope you can make a visit to Cleveland to see our operations first hand and to present your views to Thompson executives.
