There is no current overall compilation of data on the chemical, physical and toxicological properties of air pollutants. Anyone requiring these facts must search through many different sources to obtain the data they require. A comprehensive collation of the existing data published in a single volume would be a valuable asset.

To this end, I have agreed to help edit a volume whose tentative title is "Handbook of Drugs and Environmental Hazards". The required data are available in many files scattered all over the world. These data are not secret, and generally are made available to anyone whose reasonable request solicits them. One person cannot possibly uncover all the sources and all the facts. However, with the help of key people this project is a realistic one, and has a predictable probability of success . I hope you will help. If so, I would like you to complete the enclosed data form for Lead.
I am sure you will agree that this is a worthwhile project, and cooperate. I would appreciate your material on or before May 31.
Sincerely yours.

EXPLANATION OF DATA REPORT FORM FOR ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS HANDBOOK
Our objective is to present the best available information on each pollutant. Choices and judgments should not be left for the reader because he is not as competent to make the judgments as you are. Therefore a critical evaluation should proceed filling but the data form.
Hopefully the scope and format of the two data sheets provide a fairly adequate set of pigeonholes for most items . Where more information is essential and available, please provide it. A partially filled out sample sheet for SO2 is provided to clarify the meanings of some headings.
Please list your references on the literature reference data sheet.
