Preston General: This being the first meeting of the 1977 B-Term Hourly Safety Committe, the major objective was to be sure that they understood the plant safety program covered by Procedure Bulletin P-0100 and their respective functions in this program. The program was fully discussed covering all groups in the plant and their respective functions and questions about the program were answered. OLD BUSINESS: 1. The program to sterilize and keep face shields which are used with portable grinders clean and sanitary is not working satisfactorily. SC 12678 NEW BUSINESS: 1. At Dock 2 some type of cut-out "line pull" is needed on the small winch to prevent breaking cables and blocks when the boom is raised. These incidents have occurred several times in the past, and will continue to occur until some type load limit or cut-out device is used when raising the boom. 2. Telephone lines south of Department 19 control room in the pipe rack need to be retied to their original position. They are currently approximately two feet low and can be cut by crane booms. 3. We know that AN-5 has their own cyanide spill alarm, but it is not audible in all parts of the unit, but the main point is that many people do not know what the alarm is or what it sounds like. Suggest that it be revised to be heard in all parts of the unit and that Maintenance people be given an opportunity to hear the sound during their monthly safety meetings. Outside traffic and contractors' vehicles in the plant still creating serious problems in breaking speed limits, running stop signs, etc. Feels we have 50% too many vehicles in the plant. 5. Individual employees are not taking care of slings and the slings are being left in areas where they could become contaminated and made unsafe for future use. If a program is available on use and care of slings, it should be used at a monthly meeting for Maintenance personnel as a reminder of the im portance of taking care of this equipment. A serious problem exists in the Shops where employees wash parts in the kerosene and oil vat which becomes heavily con taminated with materials being washed from the parts.
