Subject: BULK ASBESTOS ANALYSIS
As requested, the samples which you submitted were analyzed for asbestos.
Purpose of this analysis was to respond to management concern over the
composition of materials found at the plant. These samples are of insulation
material used on a 5 M thin tank. Results, as shown on the attached data
sheet, indicate that two samples contain significant amounts of asbestos.
Excessive exposure to airborne asbestos fiber and dust can present serious
adverse health effects many years after exposure. These include asbestosis,
which can be a seriously disabling and progressively obstructive lung disease,
and cancer of the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts and of the chest
and abdominal cavities. Steps must be taken to assure that employees with
potential exposure to asbestos fiber are aware of these health effects and
that proper precautions are taken to eliminate asbestos fiber inhalation.
These include use of effective respirators, wet methods of dust suppression,
vacuuming with approved vacuum cleaners, and good local exhaust ventilation.
