Patel Subject: Asbestos Monitoring of Construction Employees at the Sistersville Plant On January 12, 1984, Mark Bell and this writer of the Technical Center Industrial Hygiene group visited the Sisters ville Plant to conduct personal exposure monitoring for asbestos fibers while Constructrion Department employees stripped asbestos-containing insulation from pipes at the Steam Plant. The monitoring was done during the entire stripping operation for that day. The balance of the day when there was no monitoring done, the insulators used that time to in sulate the stripped pipes with non-asbestos insulation. The results of monitoring are shown in the attachment which show that all the employees who were monitored worked in the area where the potential for exposure to asbestos was below the cur rent Federal OSHA standard of 0.5 fibers per cc of air. All employees involved in the stripping operation wore full body hooded coveralls, gloves, safety glasses and respirtor approved for use for asbestos. The area was properly barricaded, insu lation was wetted down while stripping and the gratting was covered to collect any insulation which might fall down. Please notify all monitored employees of their exposure results.
