Wesley Technical Section Re: Vacuum Rotary Dryer \ File 34-123 Gentlemen: Your letter of October 3rd advising of desire for more information regarding our laboratory vacuum rotary dryer facilities is at hand. We appreciate your interest and hope we might be privileged to conduct a test on your material. Our pilot unit is 18" diameter by 36" long, having a gross volume of 5.2 cu. ft., equipped with a dry and wet dust collector, surface condenser and vacuum pump. Material of construction is type 304 stainless steel throughout where in contact with the product. We should have 20 to *? ^ 30 gallons volume equivalent of material as it would be charged to the Zo9a dryer. A single test is conducted at no charge or obligation. The data accumulated from such a test enables us to determine commercial scale equipment size and determination of nature and size of auxiliary equip ment . Our schedule of tests at present is such that we could anticipate running a test for you in mid November, We welcome representatives of our prospective customers to witness such tests as sometimes their familiarity with the material to be processed proves helpful in our conducting of the test. We have reviewed the information on the data sheet returned with your letter. Assuming the stated feed rate to refer to a 24 hr, day and assuming three batches per day or about 1/3 the drying time in your vacuum shelf dryer, we would estimate a 4' diameter by 15' long unit may be required. Such a unit of all steel construction including the usual auxiliaries ie, dust collector, condenser and air ejector, would require an investment of $25,000.00 to $30,000.00. It would not be inconceivable to anticipate four (4) batches per day. This could reduce the dryer size to 3' diameter by 15' long and an investment of $20 to $25,000.00. If,on the other hand, the material is of a specific color and blending of a small amount of dry material, not completely discharged, with the next batch isn't objectionable, the vacuum rotary dryer offers advantages over the labor consuming vacuum shelf dryer technique.
